The Port Perry Legion Squirts moved into second place in the York-Durham Softball League, with two impressive wins last week. The Squirts improved their record to five wins and three losses, with wins over King City and Claremont. On Wednesday evening, the local team travelled to King City and easily defea- ted the disorganized local club by a 17-8 score that actually flattered the King City boys. The Port Perry boys scored runs in every inning BIE LAINE except one to build an early lead, and were never pressed too hard, even when King City scored five runs late in the game. Dave Burnett led the Port Perry hitters with two home-runs and two singles, Steve Durham had a double and two singles, while Flames go on a hot streak with 8-6 win over Trojans by Paul Beare Last Monday's ball hockey action saw two completely different styled games. At home on Thursday night the Squirts played host to Claremont and defeated them for the third time this year by a 10-4 score. This game was a real pitcher's battle as .Tim Evans of Claremont was defeated by David Doupe with relief held from David Burnett. Claremont took an early 2-1 lead, but the local team fought back and led 5-2 after - >= five innings, before scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth to assume the victory. David Doupe had seven strike-outs in the three innings he pitched and David Burnett allowed only one hit in the four innings he pitched in completing the game.
