~ Seagrave and area news by Jackie Boyle With all the calendar dates to circle for upcoming events the one that is foremost in our minds these days is September 2 and back to school. Many Seagrave children took part in Cup Day Satur- day for the Scugog Youth Soccer Club. Saturday was also the day a few of our younger baseball players participated in a tournament in Port Perry. Congratu- lations to all these players for their fine efforts! Congratulations to Cecilia Janowski and Earl Barr who exchanged - marriage vows on Saturday in a lovely out- door ceremony at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Barr. Earl's sister, Mrs. Dianne Knowston arrived from Edmonton for -the special occasion. A reception dance followed at the Utica Hall. Two ball tournaments are scheduled for next month. The Seagrave Old Timers take part in Little Britain's tournament on Saturday, Sept. 13, and. our Seagrave and Mariposa ladies teams play host to a tournament in Seagrave on Saturday Sep- tember 20. Practice for Turkey Power will now be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Those interested in-joining the 4H Homemakers Club are asked to call Mrs. Enid Belair at 985-2618 or Mrs. Sharon Jones at 985-3481. Both leaders are involved in a two day training program this week. Seagrave Sunday School resumes on Rally Day, Sept. 7 where diplomas, seals, and perfect attendance awards will be presented. A reminder that registra- tion for Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts will take place on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Church. A paper drive is scheduled for Saturday, September 13. Please be reminded of the U.C.W. outdoor bakesale on Friday, August 29. A meeting and registration for the Seagrave Co- operative Play Group will be held on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. in the church base- ment. The Seagrave U.C.W. is sponsoring Luncheon is Served on Tuesday Sept. 9th at 12:30 p.m. Tickets may be obtained from any of the U.C.W. members. The Sept. meeting of the U.C.W. will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3rd at 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Mildred Puckrin. We are very proud of our local music group, A Touch of Class. This talented group under the direction of Joan Lee, will be performing on Saturday at the Port Perry Fair, with Irwin Smith accompanying. Roy Puckrin arrived home Thursday from a successful business trip out west. Then on Sunday, Roy and Marilyn opened their home for the Puckrin Family Picnic. In- cluded among the 62 guests were Mr. Fred Puckrin's niece, Judy Paddington and son John from Calgary, and Judy's- grandmother, Mrs. A.W. Betson of Scugog Island who is in her 96th year. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Puck- rin enjoyed a few days visit from Mrs. Puckrin's sister . and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gale of Manitoulin Island. Kelly and Alison Boyle, along with Mom and Dad helped Andy O'Brien cele- brate his 7th birthday at a party given in his honour on Sunday. Darren Desautel and $150. on labour.
