Gerry Cole, head of the Physical Education Depart- ment and a fixture on foot- ball coaching staffs since the Qeam was started in 1958, said they would need $3,000 in new helmets for the coming year. Coach Cole stated that "There could be legal they are now using, if there was an injury. 'Without legally doing it, they are condemning the old helmets', he said. Mr. Cole said that conflict- ing minor sports times in the area have had a great deal to do with lack of enthusiasm among the football players. Local soccer squad winds up in fourth by Barry Page Our Port Perry Printing Devils competed in an eleven team glimination tourna- ment on Sept. 6 and 7. It started in Stouffville on Sat- urday at 11:30 a.m. when we met King City and over- powered them 10-0. Port Perry's next match was at 4:00 p.m. the same day losing to Guildwood (Scarborough) 2-1. This put us in a four way tie and our low goals against average enabled us to qualify for the semi-finals on Sunday at 12:00. The semi-final game was against a St. Catherines team who outscored us 2-0. We had many good opportun- ities and were able to control a good portion of the game but we just couldn't find the goal. This put us out of the tournament which gave us fourth place out of eleven teams. This was the first tourna- ment our boys have played in as a team, so thanks boys for a good solid effort. The St. Catherines team played in the finals at 3:00 p.m. against a team from U.S.A. and won in penalty shots. It was 1-1 after regular time, 0-0 after two 10 minute halfs, and it went right down to the fifth and final penalty shot in order to decide the winner.
