Scugog Township is going all. Members "of council agreed unanimously at the regular meeting Monday afternoon to place an immediate order for the 1400 gallon tanker-pumper combination at a price of $67,000, When details of purchase of the new truck were first discussed by council two weeks ago, finance commit- tee chairman Reg Rose expressed concern that taking the money from the reserve accounts could leave them dangerously low, possibly. resulting in interest charges for short-term bank borrowing. However, councillor Rose said on Monday that while he ARERR YAGER to get its new fire truck, after LP J hs still has some concerns about the level of cash reserves, a study of the balances since the meeting two weeks ago show that the situation "'is not as bad as I first thought." The recommendation to buy the truck at this time was made by the Finance Committee, of which council- lor Rose and Jerry Jackman are members. The committee's report to council shows that even with the $67,000 for the truck committed, the Township's two capital reserve accounts will have a total of about $115,000 in them. As well, the report says that an additional $56,000 will come into the municipality's coffers this October via development fee charges for Potpourri Guild starts new year by Zona Parkes The Potpourri Handicraft Guild helds its first meeting of the new season on the evening of September 3rd at Town Hall 1873. Mary Lou Carnochan presided, with Vice president Eileen Draper Recording secretary- "Anna Spencley and Treasur- er Lynn Warne assisting. After Mary Lou welcomed members and guests, and Anna read the minutes of the previous June meeting, a discussion took place regard- ing plans for the Fall Festi- val of Crafts scheduled for October 17th and 18th at the Town Hall. Committees were formed to look after various duties involved with its presentation. Several members volunt- teered to sell raffle tickets for a patchwork quilt, pine cone wreath and crewel picture at the Oshawa Centre on Tuesday, September 9th, and in front of Stedman's Store in Port Perry on September 18th, 19th and 20th. At the conclusion of the business portion of the meeting, it seemed apparent that the Guild members were confident about a successful sale this year. Later, on the agenda, were interesting demonstrations by members Marilyn _ Youmans and Mary Ann Suppelsa. Mary Ann, with a small broom of dried grasses, a grouping of dried flowers and a ribbon bow of complimentary colours, created a lovely arrange- ment which seemed to be attractively suited to hang on a door or on a kitchen, dining room or living room wall. Marilyn's contribution to this fascinating art was a clever arrangement of dyed cornhusk flowers, Baby's breath, eucalyptus leaves and a bow artistically placed flnnmuanumaunninoin SEWING MACHINE REPAIRS call GIL RUMMENIE 986-5319 Or Drop Off At MODERN TEXTILES Le TTT TTT TITTY on a wicker fan. Both demonstrations presented various examples of charming wall decorations using many different materials. It was perfectly obvious that everyone thoroughly enjoyed their new ideas. At the next meeting, on October 1st at 8 p.m. at Town Hall 1873, Marilyn Youmans will return to give instruc- tions on making dried flower arrangements in jars. Any- one who is interested in participating is advised to bring along a decorative jar, preferably with a proper lid, scissors, quite a large chunk of styrofoam, some dried flowers and leaves, a scewer and whtie glue. New members welcome. are a subdivision in Greenbank. The terms of the purchase price include a $20,000 down payment with the remaining $47,000 to be paid when the new vehicle is delivered. That is expected to be some time early in the New Year. At the meeting two weeks ago, Unit One fire chief Jack Cook told council that the Township needs this new 'Township to place order - for $67,000 fire truck truck now. He said that certain design features will make it efficient to operate and safer for firefighters when they are operating the pumping controls. Although the truck will be based at the hall in Port Perry, it will be used by both the Port Perry and Caesarea Units of the Scugog depart- ment. Seagrave subdivision given initial approval A proposal from Scugog Realty of Port Perry for development of a 20-lot sub- division near Seagrave was given initial approval by Scugog council Monday afternoon. Morley Bruce, president of Scugog Realty, told council that the 20 lots of about 1.5 acres each would be an extension of Robinglade Estates development. Stating that the develop- ment could have 'economic and cultural benefits" to the community of Seagrave, Mr. Bruce said he would consider phasing the subdivision over a period of five to ten years. . The land in question is on the west side of the Scugog- Mariposa Town line Road, east of Region Road Two, with access off the Regional Road via the 12th Conces- sion. Members of council sug- gested that the development take place by official plan of subdivision, and council agreed to ask the Regional Planning department to con- sider the proposal as an extension to the existing Robinglade development. As well, council agreed to support a re-zoning applica- tion as the land is currently zoned agricultural. Council gives $150 for Terry Fox buttons A plan by two Port Perry * High School students to raise money for the Terry Fox Cancer Marathon got a boost from Scugog council Monday afternoon.
