NET WR eC Re Pee Wee MoJacks win Bethany ball tourney by Bonnie Solomon The Port Perry Pee Wee MoJacks finished their year off with winning the champ- ionship at the Bethany tourn- ament. Their first game was a hard fought one against Omemee. Without two home runs from Paul Robinson and Greg Warriner the score might have been quite diff- erent. ' In their second game the Pee Wees game up against the team from Peterbor- ough. Port won with a score of 6-2. The third game of the day was against Pontypool, This game was exciting with quite a few questionable calls from the umpire, but Port came out the victor again. The team travelled back to Bethany on Sunday to come a» against Omemee again. is tourney was run on a two game knock out so Omemee had to play Port two games to win. Up to the 4th inning it was tied. But the bottom of the sixth, Port pulled out and won 13-9. Also at this tournament Stephen Solomon, the catch- er of the MoJacks, was chosen the Most Valuable Player of the tourney. Masons top police again in tug-of-war competitions For the second time in three attempts, the Port Perry Masonic Lodge Men defeated the Durham Regional Police in a Tug of War, this time at the Ux- bridge Fair last week. The most recent triumph for the Masons came in two straight pulls. The rivalry started when they upset the policemen at the Tug of War during Port Perry's Western Weekend. They lost to the Durham Regionals on Labour Day at the Port Perry Fair. The Policemen were at a disadvantage for the rubber match because they were pulling on a field that had a constitution of very solid earth. Their spiked boots could not stick- into the ground. They were also pulling with two men less than they usually do, be- cause of the spiked boots Open Meeting Of ~ CANADIAN CLUB OF DURHAM REGION In the Genosha Hotel WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24th SPEAKER: Senator Heath Macquarrie TOPIC: 'Prospects for Peace in the Middle East.'
