The members enjoyed a barbeque on Jyly 8th, later films were show "The vacant Lot" and "'A Sense of Humus." At the August 5th meet- ing the members held a flower arranging workshop, the Garden Competition results were as follows - Best Flower Garden - Wendy Bateman, Grace Bajema, Claudia McDiarmid, Best Vegetable Garden - Diny Oosterholt, Ria Hoogeveen, Linda Bradburn. On Tuesday evening September 9th, the annual Flower and Vegetable show was held. Judging was done by Marion Carnaghan. During the judging the guest speaker was Mr. John Lloyd from Bowmanville's Chrys- anthemum grower. Mr. Lloyd showed excellent slides taken on a trip to the Yukon. Many in the audi- ence were surprised at the attractive flowers and vege- tables that grow in that area. The temperature is quite similar to Central Ontario during the summer but having so many hours of daylight the growth seldom stops. During the winter months there ig so much snow cover that the per- renials do well. The meeting was opened in the usual manner and the president welcomed the members and one guest with a few words about her own summer activities. Correspondence included a letter of resignation from the Card Secretary. The president asked for help in this matter and Mae Donnel- ly offered to fill the post for us. Thank you, Mae. A highlight of the meeting was the presentation by Marjorie Williams, of prizes won for hooking entered in the Port Perry Fair in the following categories: Hook- ed rug from cut woolen material - 1st prize --Mrs. Poldie Mair, R.R. 2, Sea- grave. 2nd prize - Mrs. M. Our next meeting on Octo- ber 8th is to be a trip by the members to a craft and quilt show in Claremont. Mem- bers are requested to be at St. Johns Church Hall no later than 1:30 p.m. in order that everyone will have a ride.
