ans SE HUN by Jackie Boyle Even though it was some- what cloudy and windy, the S$ eatherman did oblige in warding off any rain for the Mariposa-Seagrave Ladies baseball tournament last Saturday at the Seagrave Park. : @ The Oakwood Bearettes won the Consolation Trophy, donated 'by Gloria Wallace and Dorothy Massel of the Seagrave Country Store. The Port Perry Old Timer- ettes took home.the Champ- 4 ionship Trophy donated by Rod Jones, Thank you Gloria, Dorothy and Rod for the donation of these lovely trophies. Members of each of the four teams received crests for their participation. Congratulations to each of the team members for their fine efforts! : A beautiful smorgasbord luncheon was served by the hosting teams for the tourna- .ment participants. Refresh- eg Mments were also available thanks to our local scouts. Many members of the Scouting movement took part in the Pineridge and District Church Parade in Port Perry on Sunday. Birthday box contributors on Sunday included Amy Wanamaker and Nicole Addison. Twenty-four new hymn books, donated by the Sea- grave U.C.W. were -dedicat- ed during Sunday's Church Service. The Seagrave Church Anniversary Service will be held this Sunday, September 28 at 11 a.m. with Rev. W.C. Sellars as guest minister. The members of the U.C.W. extend an invitation to those who will be attending, to a social hour imediately after the service. Refreshments will be served. There will be no Sunday School on this special morning. Pinedale Church Annivers- ary will be celebrated on Sunday, October 19 at 11 a.m, with Rev. Les Critch as. guest speaker. 'Greenbank Church Anni- versary will be celebrated on Sunday November 2 at 11 --a;mawith-Rev: Roger Maggs- as guest speaker. Seagrave Choir Practise for children ages 7 to 11 who are interested in forming a - Junior Choir will be held on Thursday Sept. 25th from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. The Greenbank and Seagrave Scouts partici- pated in a walkathon on Saturday with proceeds going to the Terry Fox fund. First Geer picnic in 15 years The first Geer family reunion in fifteen years was held Sunday, September 21, 1980 at the home of Jack and Kathy Monsma of Utica. Guests were present from as far away as Hamilton but the majority live in the Uxbridge and Port Perry areas. The weatherman cooperat- ed for most of the day and after we had all eaten too much there were games and The prize for the oldest person present went to Carson Wat- son of Uxbridge and the prize for the youngest to Bradley Monsma of Utica. A unique idea was the family tree with room for everyone to write their names under the appropriate branch of the family. The founders of this family were Albert Geer and Jennie Wright. They had seven children: Ivan, Charles, Chester, Erma, Mildred, Ruby and Verna. They now number 140 plus. The family reunion was a great success with 121 present. Mile E. of Ritson Rd. |' .Seagrave area news police ch PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., September 24, 1980 -- 25 arge 10 persons on drug related charges Early morning raids last Friday in Beaverton and Uxbridge by a combined force of 15 RCMP -and Durham Region Police officers resulted in the arrest -of 10 persons on 21 drug- related charges. A spokesman for the RCMP Oshawa office said the raids were carried out following a two-month inves- tigation by undercover officers throughout the Beaverton and Uxbridge areas. During this time, the undercover officers pur- chased narcotics, restricted and controlled drugs includ- ing marijuana, LSD and phencyclidines (PCP). Charged as a result of the raids last Friday morning and the previous investi- gations are: Blair James Morrison, 17 of Uxbridge; Joseph McGill, 19 of Mark- ham; Richard Peter Morri- son, 17 of Woodville; and Danial William Lightfoot, 20; Ken Allan Swailes, 20; Stewart Darcy Riley, 22; Scott Howard Metherell, 18, Edward Stephan McDougall, 23; Bradley John Mitchell, 22; and Denise McCall, 19; all from Beaverton. The accused appeared before a Justice of the Peace and were released for appearance later this month and in October at Provincial Court in Lindsay, New- market and Ajax.
