RN © - jit { | [ Grade nine students by Claudia Liebscher This past week was an exciting and memorable one for the kids of Port High, especially the Grade Nines, who had a second childhood. The theme for this year's Initiation was "Babyland," as the Grade Nines dressed up in the "latest fashion' of diapers, P.J.'s, red cheeks and get this - a matching toy and diaper bag. They had their first taste of high school life as the seniors initiated them on two consecutive days - Thursday and Friday. Laurie O'Reilly and Sue Doupe headed the Student Involvement activities and did a fantastic job. In order that one may participate in the initiation gala, one must procure an activity card. On Thursday the Grade Nines Janice Jackman had a hard time rolling this golf ball up the ramp, but persistance paid off and she succeeded. 3 were expected to open doors and be polite to all who wore aprons (Query: does Apron signify the mother image?) And on Friday the actual initiation took place during the lunch and activity periods. Kangaroo Court fixed the people who would not 'participate properly during the initiation. Many will attest that a Jello toss and eating pablum without a spoon are not the cleanest sports around! But everyone enjoyed Andrea Lewis' rendition of the Port High's fight song. The dance on Friday night crowned the whole event. The turnout was great and Martin Kuypers did a super job as disc jockey. * Dressed in diapers, pajamas, and bonnets these students take part in their " get initiated.... FROM THE WORLD OF SPORTS Monday night Port High's soccer team played against the best team in the region - Dunbarton. Unfortunately, the seniors and juniors both lost, but on Wednesday the team played * against McLaughlin and the seniors won. Mr. Westlake, the soccer coach, looks hopeful for future soccer games. He says, "We have got a great team." Next week our tennis team travels to Oshawa for a tournament. Best of luck goes with Mr. Scott and his troop of ball smashers. Allin all, a nostalgic week for Port High. The Yearbook should be crammed full of "goo goo ga ga's" and little Johnnys' and Marys' count- less baby snapshots! initiation by singing and dancing for the senior students. Ever tried pushing a penny uphill with a straw. This young lad, clad in bonnet and diapers did last week during the initiation day activities. Senior students were in full control of the activities performed by the junior students last week. Here a group of six grade niners slide down the ramp at the school shouting slogans.
