8 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., September 24, 1980 Local Scouts raise $268 for cancer research by Paul Saulnier We did it on September 20 at 10 a.m. Fourteen scouts and one leader started from Port Perry on a walk of hope for Scugog Cancer Society. Our walk was to take us north to Seagrave, west to Highway 12, south to 12 line ward one. Twenty-two miles we covered. At 3 p.m. we arrived at Scouter Paul's home tired but happy at having raised $268.91 for the Cancer Society. To all the people who gave money, those who gave us water, oranges, and our lunch, our drive back home, you all helped. We hope now other Scout troops will take off where we left off and do their share. We, the residents of Scugog Township are fortunate that there have been no tragic incidents happen in our area. We do however, seem to have lost interest in this project and it is to be hoped that we do not need a serious occurrence to reawaken us _to what _the Block Parent Association is about.
