Hockey Action NOVICE HOUSE LEAGUE by Don Steele Sportsland4 Reliable Plumbing-1 This was a good end to end ® game with four of the five goals coming on break- aways. Sportsland scored only once in the first period on a fine effort by Greg Fitzgerald. Michael Butt got his second hat trick in as many games, finding the mark, all in the second period.Sportsland was held scoreless in the third period, the only goal being scored for Reliable ,Plumbing by Mark Andrews, assisted by Paul Tino and Troy McCauly. A fine game for both goaltenders, Dwayne Empringham for Reliable _ Plumbing and Noel Lovering for Sportsland. Kinsmen-7 Scugog Realty-1 In a rather one sided event Kinsmen overpowered Scugog Realty 7-1. Kinsmen scored three times'in the first period on goals by Chris Forder, unassisted, Jason Towns from Aaron Cochrane _and Jason Towns again from- Michael Skerratt. Kinsmen found the mark twice more in the second 'period with Aaron Cochrane scoring from Graham Sullivan and then Graham Sullivan assist- ed by Aaron Cochrane. With 14 seconds remaining, Scugog Realty finally got on the board with Ryan Free scoring from Danny Slugett. Kinsmen finished the third period scoring twice more Qn markers from Chris Forder and Jason Towns, a hat trick for Jason with assists going to Michael Skeratt and Chris Forder. : ATOM HOUSE LEAGUE \ by Doug Moore Tripp Real Estate-2 Swamp Garage-0 On Saturday November 8th Tripp Real Estate defeat- ed Swamp Garage 2-0. Scor- ing for Tripp was Tim Alsopp unassisted, also scoring was Shawn Philips assisted by Brent McMillen. Steven McTavish recored the shut- out. Scugog Lumber-7 U.AW.-0 In the second game Scugog Lumber defeated U.A.W. 7-0. Scoring for Scugog was Steven Short with 2 goals, assisted by Blair Bailey and David Leroy. Blair Bailey also had 4 goals assisted by Terry Bache with 2 assists, Ron Davis and Joey Jack- man. Joey Jackman also scored one unassisted goal. Ritky King recored the shut- out. PEE WEE HOUSE LEAGUE by Jeff Wray Wes Lane-7 Glen Vallie-0 It was the second win for Wes Lane in two weeks. So far they're two for two on the season. The big man for the Wes Lane team was Paul Lane with a hat trick and two assists for a total of five --pointson the day. Keep it up Paul. Also scoring for Wes Lane was Craig Venning with two goals. Getting one goal was Mike Brock and Buzz Morrow. Getting the shutout-was- Bobby Orr: Franks-5 Lions Club-1 i; The second game of the morning was won by the team of Frank Real Estate. Scoring the goals for Frank was Calvin Brewster, 2 goals and one assist, Blair Phillips one goal and one assist. Also scoring was Phil Spencley with one goal and Danny Vernon. Getting assists were Travis Adamoryck and Ted Cochrane. Getting the lone goal for Lions was Mark Kendall assisted by Jeff Fedyk. managed to kill it off with no further scoring. All the penalties were successful in keeping Port off stride. They did not reach full effectiveness until the late stages of the contest when they cartie back with a pair of goals by Johnstone and Steve Lee. Johnstone drew Port to within a goal when he deflected a shot by Kevin Fergusson on Frost's door- step with 8:01 remaining. Two further penalties, to Dickson and Meisner for slashing, prevented Port from regaining the momentum. Port split the two games earlier in the day. They beat Napanee 5-3 after dropping the opening game 3-2 to Markham B's. Paul Bate- man, a lefthander, stepped in between the pipes for the second game and presented a very solid outing. Howard Lee opened the scoring at 1:05 with a long blast near the face off circle. Fergusson made it 2-0 from the slot as he dribbled in a weak drive after a pass from the corner, through a lot of traffic. Napanee tied-it up-in:the second minute of the second period on a shot from the same place Lee took his to score the first goal. Left winger Steve Lee, who played well throughout the tournament, especially in offensive production, restor- ed the Port advantage at 1:18 when he wheeled around in front of the net and deposited a pass in front of the point by Dickson. Kemp and Johnstone each PORT YOU CAN ALWAYS plugged away at the rebound before Kemp finally found the mark early in the third period. Napanee came back with a power play goal while Howard Lee was in the box. Defenceman Brian Stev- enson got the insurance marker with 5:09 left on a low shot through another traffic jam. Bateman was called upon to make a key stop with 17 seconds remain- ing. and the Napanee net empty. The Markaham-Port encounter was a tight check- ing, goaltender dominated affair with few penalties. The game was extraordinar- ily clean, with no penalties in the Tirst half. .- Markham beat Kingston for the first time with 2:58 gone in the second session while he was down. With 4:02 to go, Fergusson was tripped up while heading down the left wing and on the ensuring power play Steven- son missed a pass back to the point that nearly cost Port a goal. Later Stevenson lost a footrace that allowed Mark- ham a 2-1 lead. Steve Lee tied the game at 1-1, 1:05 into the third period after Darren Desautels fed him the puck from the corner. Lee also got the second goal, slamming in a pass from Kemp. Markham got the winner with 2:37 left. Atom All-stars find winning touch again Port Perry opened thee Leatherdale following a fine by Val Menzies Tuesday, November 4, Port Perry Malmont Farms Atom All Stars got back on the winning track with a 3-1 victory over the hosting Cobourg team. The game was an exciting one despite the difficulty both teams had controlling the puck on the sticky ice surface. Both of Port Perry's:-goaltenders, Chris McConnell and Stacey Ball- ingall had good performanc- es, particularly in the third period when Cobourg came on strong. Cobourg failed to score on four power plays. The only goal the boys let past them was on a three on none break -in the third period. At one point in the second period Cobourg failed to get even a shot on net despite a "two man advantage. TELLA "BEST SELLER" The entire family reads it. And, why not? The final scoring play came in the third with a beautiful shot to the upper left corner by John Lally, assisted by Brad Menzies. ----Friday,- November 7,-saw the Green Machine hosting the same Cobourg team. Port Perry again came away the victors to the tune of 5-2. The first two periods were close with each team picking up two goals. Port Perry opened the scoring on a shot from John Lally with Warren Geer picking up the assist. Cobourg tied the score at the end of the period. Malmont again took the lead in the second with a goal by Daryl portg perry' offensive effort from Jamie - Menzies. Again Cobourg came back to tie it up. In the third the Green Machine turned on the burners and went ahead to stay with three unanswered goals. Steven Connors scored un- assisted. Brad Menzies added the insurance marker assisted by John Lally and Mark Barkey.~ Mike Sorley closed the scoring with an unassisted goal, his first of the season. Seven penalties were handed out in the game, with Port picking up four. Once again Port Perry showed they have three solid lines, with steady improve- ment from the second and third lines.
