$ Children enjoy Christmas play by Borelians by Mike Stokes An unusual revolt staged by dolls took place the Town Hall 1873 last weekend as the Borelians presented 'The toys Take Over Christmas". The one act play, written by Patricia Clapp, was com- posed for children with active participation in mind. The story takes place in a Toy Shop in Imagination Land. It deals with an evil Toymaker (Terry Hodgins) who creates magical dolls but won't let anyone love them. The dolls, led by a loose- limbed rag doll named Sunny (Sarah Twomey) revolt against the Toymaker when they find he has locked their hearts up in a trunk. The two of them then go about making fake ballots for the Toymaker to win the election. All seems lost when Sunny sees the children in the audience. With their votes the dolls manage to win the election over the Toymaker and make Santa Claus the Master Toymaker. The job of introducing the children to Imagination- Land fell to Joe Jester (Ed Canning) and Clara the Clown (Lisa: Taylor). As well as collecting the kid's ballots these two kept the small fry entertained by singing Christmas carols before the play began. Besides Sunny and Colette there were four other dolls who sang and danced through the play; two soldiers (Monica Webb and Tish Lefort), their captain Bruce Arculus) and a fashion dall-(Carol-Strait): Veh aa Marilyn For the Best Deals on New G.M. On the whole, although the pacing could have been somewhat tighter, director Susan Ellis, the cast and crew presented a charming production. It kept the young audiences interested and had enough witty lines to make the adults-happy. It ~ was a cute and enjoyable way to spend a winter after- © noon.
