Broomball activities C&B defeat Utica othergames end in ties by Danny Millar C & B Livestock avenged its only defeat of the broom- ball season and increased its lead in first place in the Port Perry Association by taking an impressive 4-1 win over Utica, which is now in third place, on Sunday, November 30 The win was also a costly one for C & B as they lost the services of high scoring centerman Mark Lee for two games as a result of Lee's elbow thrown at Mike Mitchell. Lee floored his adversary with the blow and was given a game miscon- duct and a five minute major. The major penalty, served "by Ken Fraser, came when C '&B was ahead 1-0 on a goal by Ron Redman. Utica managed only one shot on a goal in the five minutes as Robert Evans and Bill Bridge ditl a' super job of killing it off. It was probably one of the turning points of the game. ? Doug Scott made some good moves on the second C & B goal after he took a pass from Tim Ashbridge in front of the net and then waited for Card to go down before slip- ping.in an easy shot, early in the second period. The goaltenders took over in the second period as Card stopped Bridel at close range and- Keith Fraser turned aside Mitchell at the other end. C & B defenceman Ken Davidson made a good play also, as he broke up a scoring try by Rick Collins. One effort that wasn't, stopped was that by Don Phinney, who deflected a shot from Bruce Woodrow high into the net with 3:45 to go in the period. Phinney scored his second on a third period backhander as Wood- row set him up in front again. Len McEnaney scored a shorthanded goal for the Plow Jockeys with 3:02 remaining on a shot from the slot that ruimed Keith Fraser's shutout bid. The game ended on a controversial note when the game was held up with 1:04 to go as Utica requested a stick measurement on Robert Evans' broom. It took several moments for the official to decide the stick was legal and Utica came pom----------l TROPHIES} i | ncn | IDO-NO's} bono, CRAFY & HOBBY gr PERRY PLAZA - 985-2839 |_| out of it with a minor penalty for their troubles. TOUGH TIE Second place Blackstock was held to a tough 1-1 draw though they controlled the majority of plays against a much improved and fully manned Larocque Electric squad. * Last week, Larocque showed up with only a couple of spares but this week they had a bench nearly filled to capacity. The extra men made a difference as they did not tire in the late going. Conversely, Larocque surged in the late going, coming from behind to tie the game with 4:08 to go when Harris McClure spotted Richard Honey with a fine pass ahead at center and Honey beat goalkeeper Rick MacLean with a clean deke. Honey bobbled the ball momentarily after McLean had been taken out of the picture and nearly squan- dered his opportunity. The game stayed scoreless until after the 4:38 mark of the last period when Wayne McGuigan passed from behind the net to Donnie Toutant for the opening goal. Blackstock had controlled play through the late stages of the second period as Larocque took three straight penalties. McClure went off first for charging, followed by newly acquired Dave Giannini for high brooming, and then Barry McClure. Each of the penalties over- lapped with the previous one, allowing Blackstock to gain momentum with consistent pressure. Giannini was the latest player to jump ship in mid- season after he played for Emmerson's all along this year. He joins the likes of Bill Bridge, * Charlie Dur- ward, Tim Ashbridge and. Steve Robinson, who switch- ed teams last week. The middle game pitted 'the "two "bottom teams, winless Brian's Towing and Emmerson's insurance, and the result was a predictable 2-2 tie. Emmerson struck quickly, as Bart Wagar, probably the top player on the team now,' beat Wayne Cox 1:24 into the game. Jim O'Neill tied it up with Emmerson"s Walter Durham off for tripping on a shot from the top of the circle on the right side. Emmerson goalie Rick Arsenault appeared to be screened. on the play. ' Charlie Dennis gave Emmerson the lead on a neat play when he slid across the net and redirected in a pass from Doug Mappin at the boards on the right side. Just when it looked like Emmerson might pick up its second win of the year, Bill Peeters tied it up with 1:35 remaining in the match. pp TET ELIT TUT] JUNIOR 'C' HOCKEY Scugog Arena - Port Perry - Ontario SUNDAY, DECEMBER 7th Port Perry MoJacks Port Hope Panthers ADMISSION: Adults $1.50 Students $1.00 Children 50* GAME TIME: 7:30P.M..
