18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., December 3, 1980 Port Perry Lions Club Ringette tournament Oro Belles, Oshawa Mixed Age champions The Port Perry Ringette Association hosted their 2nd annual Lions Club tourna- ment on Saturday November 22, 1980. Teams entered in the Belle Division were Oshawa, Oro, and Port Perry. The Mixed Age Divis- ion, which was made up of a line each of Petite, Tween and Junior had teams from Oshawa, Ajax, Lindsay and Port Perry. The first game in the Belle division had Port Perry Chris Allen Aluminum against Oshawa in a very fast skating and checking game. Port got on the scoreboard first by our newly proclaimed captain Bonnie Bridge. After the first goal there was no look- ing back. Port ended up on top with a score of 5-2. With great goaltending from Wendy Burton and Cindi Heirkins the Oshawa team was foiled many times. Scoring for Port, Bonnie Bridge 1 goal, Janet Dean 1 goal, 1 assist, Rhonda White 3 goals, and Michelle Andrews 1 assist. Scoring for Oshawa was Heather Cullen and Valerie McCull- ough assisted by Robin Mapes. The next Belle game was Oshawa and Oro. This was a very close. game. with Oshawa the winners 3-2. Robin Mapes scored for Oshawa in the first minute of play assisted by Valerie McCullough. Oro then hit for two goals, the first by Tracy Smith and the second by Judy Cooney assisted by Lynn Parent. With just 1:41 left in the period Robin Mapes got her second goal assisted by Lynn Miron to tie the score. Oshawa managed the winning goal at 5:38 of the second period by Lynn Miron assists to Heather Cullen and Valerie McCullough. In Port's second game they came up against some tough opposition from the Oro team. Oro was very well coached on moving the ring by the triangle. Oro manag- ed to slip seven goals in to only two for Port. Scoring for Oro was Judy Cooney with four goals, one assist, Lynn Reave two goals, Lisa Howell one goal, one assist, and Lori Parent and Tracy Smith each with an assist. Scoring for Port was Rhonda White with two goals and Michelle Andrews with one assist. For the Championship Port Perry and Oro ended up in the final. Port Perry played very well with very good goaltending from Cindi Heurkins but Oro was just too well coached, The score ended up 6-2 for Oro. Scoring for Oro was Lynn Reave 5 goals, Judy Cooney 1 goal, Tracey Smith 2 assists, Janet Scott 3 assists, Nancy Fletcher 1 assist. Port scoring was Bonnie Bridge 1 goal, 1 assist, Daphne Butt 1 goal and Janet Dean 1 assist. In the first game of the Mixed Age division Port Perry met Oshawa and were beaten 4-2 jn overtime: This was a very exciting game tied 2-2 at-the end of regulat- ion time with Oshawa scoring-2- unanswered 'goals in the 3 minute overtime. Scoring for Port Perry, Kelly Storry assisted by Lori Newell and Cathy Armstrong unassisted. Oshawa goals, 1 to Michelle Nordman and a hat trick for Kathy Kraan. Lindsay and Ajax met in the next game with Lindsay coming out on the short end of a 5-1:score. Scoring for Ajax Maria Muir, McLeod, Ann Genge, Elaine Dunn and Janice Smith. Assists to Janice Smith and Tara Mitchell. The only goal for Lindsay was an unassist- ed one by Shelly Keams. Assists to Kelly Storry, Janice Jackman, Jessica Fluke and Cathy Armstrong. The Championship game was Port Perry vs. Oshawa. Both teams were up for this one. Heather Muir played very strong in goal for Port. At the end of the first period Port was leading 2-1 on goals by Heidi Meisner from Jessica Fluke and Karyn Raines and Cathy Arm- strong from Karyn Raines. Oshawa's goal scored by Wendy Ellis from Kathy Kraan. = Oshawa's Annette Chaison tied it up in the second period assisted by Wendy Ellis. This game went into overtime and at 1:23 Kathy Kraan scored from Wendy Ellis to give Oshawa the Championship by a score of 3-2.
