Victor Parsons giving a splendid message for the last service in 1980, taking as his theme A Time for Pondering reading Scripture 11, Thess- alonians 2: 13-17 and Luke 2: 22-38. Miss Laurel Vine was guest soloist rendering the interesting number Calm the Troubled Waters, accomp- anying herself on the guitar. We trust Laurel will be back soon again to share her talent with us. Please take note: The Congregation meeting will be held next Sunday after the service, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m. Prior to the meeting a pot luck luncheon will be held in the Sunday School room. U.C.W. ladies planning to be present are asked to bring a casserole or a dessert. The January meeting of the U.C.W. will be held at the home of Mrs. Bob France, Scugog Point, on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. The new slate of officers for 1981 will be installed. Malcolm, Nestleton, hosted their family, on Saturday Dec. 27 for Christmas dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Grahame Fish, Nestleton had a most interesting Christmas Day calling on their family. As follows: First they called on Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Holland Port Hope, then Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lishman and family, Reaboro, and lastly Mr. and Mrs. Victor Barnis- ter and family of Lindsay. The following Sunday the family were guests for a festive dinner party at Neta and Grahame's home at Nestleton. TT On Boxing Day, Grahame and Neta Fish hosted Christmas dinner for other "|= members "of "the "family. Those present for this joyful occasion were: Mr. and Mrs. Larry Smith and Tenny, Hampton, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Fish, and Lisa, Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Corby and Paul and Mr. and Mrs. Ron Jacobs, Deanna and Rhonda of Blackstock. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dayes, Nestleton and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Andrews Sr. Prince Albert, were New Year's -guests with-Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Andrews Jr. and family of Prince Albert. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Malcolm, Nestleton, had Christmas morning break- fast with Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Malcolm and family and later on enjoyed dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Mark Malcolm and family of Janetville. Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Kent and family of Orono were also present. On Boxing Day Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Malcolm and family hosted a Christmas family gathering with all present. On Christmas Day Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Malcolm, Nestleton, were guests of Joan's parents Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Endicott in Lindsay. Exciting Hockey Sam and Mabel Cawker of Scugog Point Road attended the hockey game held at the Civic Auditorium, Oshawa, on Saturday evening Dec. 27, to see grandson Chris. Cawker of the Major Juveniles (sponsored by - Canadian Legion Branch 43) play against the Juvenile -- National Team of Czecho- slovakia. money's worth in a fast moving game with plenty of action. Although the Czech team won 9-3 the Oshawa boys played exceptionally well against the experienced Czech Nationals and kept the game well in hand through- out the first two periods, 'tiring in the third, due to the fast pace. Oshawa Minor Hockey Association had the privilege of hosting the team members and Executive during the visit to Canada and trust they enjoyed their stay in Oshawa. Sympathy Sincere sympathy to Port Perry friends Mabel and Howard McMullen who lost their son-in-law Don Edmonds, Peterborough, this past week. Also, sym- pathy to wife Marion and family, Ross, Rick, Ken and Kim. : Christmas Family News Mr. and Mrs. Howard McMullen, Port Perry, and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Bonyun of Midland, were dinner guests and spent Saturday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Grant Campbell of Nestle- ton. Miss Chandre Cawker spent the holiday week with her grand- parents at the farm and proved to be a real farmer- ette. Phone 986-4715. Thank you. Rehearsals to start years of wedded bliss on - for 'Cuckoo's Nest' "One Flew Over the. Cuckoo's Nest' began production this week, bring- ing together the finest theatre talent in Port Perry. Fourteen of the best actors and actresses began rehear- sals under the direction of John Foote, now residing in Toronto. Foote attends Humber Threatre College and works as an actor in Toronto and is the director of "The Greatest Movie Moments" and "The Prisoner of 2nd Avenue", two of Port's biggest hits. With the cast he has chosen he promises an origi- nal and powerful play, and feels he can make the play an émotional experience. The cast is certainly one he is proud of, including Cam Muir, Jeff Foote, Melanie Bruce, Leslie McNulty, Lisa Taylor, Lea Dowson, Sue McDougall, Heather McDougall, Steve Foote, Carla Dempsey, Kelly Rowe and Mike Stokes. "Cuckoo's Nest' opens in June and promises to be an event in Port Perry Theatre. Durham College January courses Durham College will be offering the largest selection of January extension courses ever offered - a total of 133, and most start the week of January 26. We anticipate an enroll- ment of approximately 1900 students for the winter offer- ing. Registration begins January 5th and is scheduled weekdays from-9:00 a.m. to 4:39 p.m. An official regis- tration night will be held January 13 from 5:30 to 8:30 pr Sp orts fans "had "their Co p:m with academic 'Tepre- ) sentatives present to advise the public concerning the various courses available. The following outlines some of the new courses. In the general interest area- you can enjoy eight evenings of travel, with speakers giving slide presen- tations 'on Canada, Cuba, Indonesia, Sweden, Hawaii, Russia, Romania, and the Canadian North West Terri- tories. There is also a course on the Art of Parenting which will teach you to communicate with children, how to motivate them, .and "how to teach them new skills. A new course on Brake Repair offers first hand experience for the do it yourselfer - in a complete start-to-finish brake job on an average North American car. Mary Lisko, author of the "Happy Cooker" and the "Happy Looker" will teach a course on Dieting with a Difference. There is a course on Distance Running and one on general home maintenance to help you do many of your own Home Repairs. Other new general interest course include Hobby Farming, Home Hair... Care, and a Mobile Disc Jockey Training Course. A course called Speak in Silence teaches sign language for-the deaf, and another new course will teach students to cut Stained Glass to pattern and set into lead. There is a course about the Changing Role of Women in Today's Society. of course, in addition to the general interest courses, there are the College's regular credit programs in Business, Applied Arts, Health and Sciences and Technology. Harold was well-known throughout the area, and had lived here most of his life. He was born in Victoria had the family home for a ___ Christmas guests with the Corners, November 26, 1907, years, he had continuing illnesses and confinement. He remained however, a positive influence on his family and friends, with his wit and cheerfulness - throughout. Surviving Harold, are his wife, his two sons, and three daughters, his brother Mason, his niece Betty Ann, fourteen grandchildren and the second son of -the-late- Robert Wesley Acton and Etta Maude Colleran. He was a great-grandson of one of the original pioneers of this county, Married in 1928 to Mary Elizabeth McMillan of Greenbank, he was the father of five children, Keith of Oshawa, Maurice of Ottawa, Isabelle (Mrs. Ross Brooks) of Sunderland, Grace (Mrs. Ken Nicholls) of Whitby and Jeannette of Oakville. Harold worked in the garage business for over 30 years, first with his father and brother Mason in Uxbridge, and in 1952 he started an auto-body busi- ness. He retired from business in 1964, and worked at Fairview Lodge in Whitby till 1972. During the past eight one great-grandchild. The funeral service was - conducted by the Reverend Michael Locke of Trinity United Church. Interment is to be in St. James Cemetery, West Brock. : He was loved by his family and friends, and will be missed.
