- 18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., January 21, 1981 MoJacks drop close game fo Muskies by Danny Millar Port Perry MoJacks defenceman Rob Garrow made a costly mistake when he committed himself at center, allowing Ron Sharm- an and Erik Eillis of Lindsay Muskies a two on one break that accounted for the winn- ing goal with 12 seconds left in a Jr. C hockey game last Friday in Lindsay. Garrow tried to force the play at the red line but Sharman avoided him and fed Ellis for the goal to make it 8-7. Garrow, in his second year with the club, started last season as a defenceman and then was moved to left wing. He returned to the blue line this term. He serves as the MoJacks alternate captain. Right after the goal, Port Perry captain, Darren Jobb requested a stick measure- - ment on a Lindsay defence- man that proved justified. Lindsay ended up with a minor penalty and Port removed goaltender Ray- mond Gibson for a sixth attacker. Jobb managed to freeze the puck in the Muskies' end with six seconds left but Port couldn't convert on the face-off. The Ellis goal capped what had been a very clean, bruising hockey game, and put the lid on a solid come- back effort by the MoJacks. Lindsay skaters handed out a pair of resounding checks. David Harrison nailed Bryan Nicholson at his own blue line in the second period and Dan Kearns labelled Charlie Brown in the third. Port Perry came back four times to tie the closely con- tested match that was not decided until Ellis scored in the final seconds. Al Lewko opened the scoring after Lindsay goalie Joe Barrieau dropped a high shot from Garrow at 8:35 of the initial period. Lindsay came back with a pair before the end of the frame to go ahead for the first time. Port Perry defenceman Charlie Brown played a strong game at the backline position. He scored a goal 23 seconds into the second period to tie it 2-2 and later in the same period made a diving poke check on David Shippel, who had broken into the clear. John Meyers and Shippel scored 1';06 apart from each other as Lindsay took a 4-2 advantage. Meyers shot was a low blast from the point after Harrison took a face-off in the Port zone. Todd Wilbur keyed a fluke goal while Kearns was off for tripping that enabled Port to draw within a goal. It was a sharp angled effort from the left corner that somehow, surprisingly got past Barr- ieau. It was awarded to Mike Albrecht who had been jostling in front. Port tied it at 16:48 of the second period when right winger Carl Durward deposited a Jobb rebound behind Barrieau after Lewko had led a rush to the ice. Wilbur was also_fortunate on Port's fifth goal. Albrecht led an excellent rush across the blue line in the dying seconds before passing off to Wilbur, who fired in a wrist shot literally a split second before the horn sounded. There wasn't even time enough for another face-off. Lindsay opened up another two goal lead before five minutes of the third period had elapsed with goals 14 seconds apart. Garrow, with slap shots from the top of the circle, and from the point tied it up. His second shot was tipped by Durward in the slot. The two come from behind goals set up Ellis's dramat- ics and ironically Garrow, who had performed so strongly, played the foil.
