Epsom and area news by Jean Jeffery BETHESDA REACH WOMEN'S INSTITUTE The regular meeting of the Bethesda-Reach W.I. was held Wednesday Jan. 28 at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Pogue. The motto, "Homes are greenhouses where citizens are started," was replied to by Mrs. Len Stroud. Five things we owe our children was a thought provoking roll call. This was our family affair meeting and since this is the Year of the Handicapped our study was the Handicapped in the Family. Challenge of the evening, "Don't be a handicap to the handicapp- ed. One out of ten adults are handicapped in some way. Our attitude to these people is so important. Are you frightened of the future that it might hold for you on yours, a wheelchair, a walk- er or blindness. Let us encourage government and municipalities to plan and build for the handicapped person. They deserve to see more than the dust on the bottom shelf. Thanks to the group leader Mrs. L. Meyers for the beau- tiful film taken at Happy Valley School in Toronto. On February 19 there will be Open House for Womens Institute groups and every- one who would care to spend the afternoon from 2 to 5 or evening from 7 till 9 at Uxbridge Arena. We have finished our Crewel stitchery classes and would like you to see the beautiful work that has been accomplished. There will be demonstrat- ions of various needlecraft. On February 25th we will celebrate the 25th annivers- ary of our branch of the W.I. Our first president and charter members will be in charge. On March 14th, we will hold our annual Pot Luck supper, euchre and silent auction. There also is a big project lin®, up for April so if you are a member or wish to be one, now is the time to come and join the fun and work for a good cause. Mrs. H. Bolton and Mrs. W. Kerry, Mrs. T. Croxa]l and Mrs. Bev James attend- ed a cooking course at Good- wood on Which Comes First, the Chicken or the Egg. This' isthe next thoroughly de- lightful course to be enjoyed by the local 4-H clubs. The Bethesda Reach Club will have their first meeting Monday February 9th. The Epsom-Utica Social Club held a wonderful pot luck supper and social even- ing on Saturday at Epsom Church.
