| Wrestlers win by Danny Millar Three Port Perry High School Wrestlers finished+in first place in their respective weight divisions as the Rebels hosted their first annual wrestling tour- nament Friday, January 30, with 240 grapplers com- peting. } Juveniles Mike Barton and Mark Beamish and Midget Paul Bertrand each came away with a gold medal at the end of the day. Barton won the 127 pound division and Beamish also went been spotty. The man responsible for the overhaul is Don Westlake, who trans- ferred from Harwood in Ajax. He is a well respected wrestling coach and was working in an Oshawa club. This year, he has added a Thursday night wrestling club. This past week they had 32 athletes attending it. It is open to anyone in Port, not just the high schoolers. The tournament started after 9:00 a.m. and ran until the late afternoon. It inclu- ded public school wrestlers unbeaten in the Heavyweight and one téam came from as class. Both Rebels were on - far away as Campbellford. the team last year and It was the biggest tourney in Durham that Coach West- lake could recall. Port was tied for second spot overall in the Midget class with 31 points, the same total registered' by Harwood, Coach Westlake's alma mater. Port High's Andrew Goss came up with a silver medal in the 94.5 midget category while Randy Kowal, Sean McKenzie, Brad Madill, Blake Paton, Robert Huggins and Karl Wilkenson each earned bronze. Paton's medal was taken at the expense of teammate Steve Nesbitt. There were only four students in the 145 pound category so it worked out that they had to face each other for the last medal. R.H. NOVICE HOUSE LEAGUE by Don Steele Kinsmen-2 Sportsland-1 In this close checking game, all the scoring came in the first period. Kinsmen was first, with Aaron Coch- rane netting one from Jason Cochrane, at the 1:10 mark. Jason assisted on the second goal, this time feeding Graham Sullivan just two minutes later. Then with 2:28 remaining, Greg Fitz- gerald put Sportsland on the board, unaggpted . Both teams tightened up defen- board at 3:28 of the second sively for periods two and three, with both netminders playing very well between the pipes. In net for Sports- land was Noel Lovering and for Kinsmen Danny Muldoon. Reliable Plumbing-2 Scugog Realty-0 The second match of the day proved to be a close checking game as the Plumbers shutout the Realtors 2-0. The first period was scoreless, but the Plumbers finally got on the period on a fine effort by Troy McAuly, assisted by Kevin Mantel. Reliable's second marker was a three way effort, with Mark Andrews scoring from Dwayne Empringham and Paul Teno, at 7:05.
