ER EIN AN RR i on REI a) Pay Fn Tr FPL A Pk RAR RIV IDHN of Blackstock news by Joyce Kelly One of our native sons passed away recently in Toronto. Mr. Lorne Brad- burn passed away very suddenly at his home. Sym- pathy goes to his brother Joe of Blackstock and sisters Arvella Henry and Viola Carter both of the Bowman- ville area and to their families. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Lee and twin babies returned home to the warm prairies after spending some holi- days with Brian's parents Ken and Dolly Lee and sister Wendy. While here they visited many friends and relatives. Many of our local residents enjoyed a day or more to the Canada Farm Show in Toronto last week. It seem- ed like a wonderful excuse to include shopping trips, visit- ing and other delightful breaks for the winter season for the ladies. Mr. and Mrs. Gord Sturr- ock of Bowmanville were recent dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold McLaughlin and family. The Port Perry Snowa- rama for Timmy was a fine success on Sunday. Many local riders participated in this worthwhile event. There were 19 tables at the weekly Senior Citizens card party. The following were winners. 1-Lloyd Fawns-94; 2-Orval Watson-89, 3-N.J. Brown-85, 4-Phyllis Clarke- 84, 5-Hazel English-81, 6- Harold Burgess-81, low Muriel, 50-50 draw-Arvella Barrett. Here's what Gordon Sin- clair would call a human interest story. When Marie and Bob Atfield came to show their pictures at the Fair Board Meeting, Marie lost her purse enroute from Toronto. The next morning Marie received a call from a cab driver who had her purse. It seems that when Marie was bringing her things out to the car she set her purse on the roof of the car while she opened the door. In the rush of leaving, she absently left her purse on the roof. Luckily the cab driver saw the purse and attempted to stop them. Soon the purse fell off and the driver had to stop to retrieve it and then he lost Marie and Bob's car. So he phoned them when they returned home again. That indeed was a happy ending and just goes to show that honest people still do exist. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Werry, Kedron, hosted a family party in honour of Cindy's dad's birthday. Guests at the dinner party on Sunday were the honoured guest Keith, and Wilma Van Camp, Barry, Leanne, Debbie -and Jay; Mr. and Mrs. Percy Van Camp, Miss Aileen Van Camp, Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Van Camp and Valerie, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Atfield, Toronto, Mrs. Wilbur Toms.
