The other milestone event of the day was C & B Livestock's second regular season loss to Utica Farm Equipment Plow Jockeys by a scant 4-3 margin. It was the third game of the season for the Port Perry ladies team and the second against the Oshawa Thrifty's squad. Earlier in this, their first season, Port escaped with a 1-0 shutout. The exhibition match lasted 40 minutes, divided into two 20 halves, with the final five minutes of the match played at stop time. It was a relatively wide open affair as both goaltenders, Diane Fawns of Port and Diane Parro of Oshawa played very well. The Port Perry team looked like a well drilled squad under the coaching of Robert Evans and Charlie Durward, two of C & B's top regulars. They played well positionally in their own end and pressured Oshawa while the ball was in the opposite zone. Port controlled most of the good scoring chances during the first half but Parro kept them off the scoresheet. Debbie Fillion came close to scoring when an Oshawa defencewoman deflected her shot right onto the Oshawa goalpost. Later, Marie Woodrow hit the goal post. Fillion missed the net on another good opportunity late in the frame. Fawns made a pair of remarkable saves to keep the slate clean at the other end of the rink when she stonewalled Linda Holter and Darla Smith from close range. UTICA WINS The Plow Jockeys will be. heading into the opening round playoff series against Blackstock in a positive frame of mind after upset- ting C & B for the second time. Over the past three years at least, they have given C & B more trouble than any other team, even taking the title away from them last year by one goal. They staged a strong comeback to do it, as Mike Mitchell scored the winning goal after they rallied from a 3-1 deficit. Mitchell played on a line with Bernie McEnaney and Aldon Smith that gave the C & B defence fits in their own end with a strong pressing attack. They accounted for two goals. Mitchell was on his stomach when he redirected a pass from McEnaney past goaltender Keith Fraser 4:16 (Turn to Page 23) Local wrestlers win silver, bronze medals On Saturday, February 7, the PeeWee Division (age 12 years and under) of the newly constituted Port Perry and Community Wrestling Association travelled to Scarborough to take part in the Ontario PeeWee Wrest- ling Championships. The coaches, Gord Taylor, Keith Moxley and Phil Bertrand were very pleased with the showing of all thir- teen boys who attended. The team came home with three individual medals and one fourth place standing. Peter Hoogers and Paul Carr won silver medals, Zac Cohoon took a bronze and Wayne Buller came away with a fourth place standing. The Association will be sending a team to Scar- borough again on February 28 to another Invitation tour- nament. Practices are held on Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Port Perry High. Next year we will be looking for boys aged 4 years to 17 years. We hope to have a Midget team as well. Coach- es will be excellent for the coming season as we have commitments from coaches with great years of exper- ience. Friday, - Jan. -30 was the first game for our Novice Boys, Beacock Hardware in which Oshawa defeated them 7-0 but a good game was played by all. Our boys will improve as we can arrange more games for them. On Saturday Manvers Bantam Tournament proved to be action filled with 8 teams entered. Blackstock Marlow Feed Bantams defeated Manvers 5-1 in their first game with 3 goals by Bill Sturman, 1 by Brian Horton and 1 by John Delong. The boys all played well for this their first tourn- ament game. Excitement built for the second game at 1 p.m. with Blackstock vs. Oshawa. Unfortunately our boys were defeated 5-2. In For Best Results Use The PORT PERRY STAR 'CLASSIFIEDS' PHONE 985-7383 the second period with the score 1-1 a very dishearten- ing event took place when an official whistle blew. All boys stopped play except for one Oshawa player who raced down the ice and scored a goal which was allowed. Our goals were scored by Bill Sturman and Bobby Hoogeveen. Hats off to all our boys who played a fine tournament. The Osha- wa boys who defeated you went on to win the champ- ionship. It could be you the next time.
