by Mrs. Earl Reader Ivan Jeffrey is sponsoring a St. Patrick's Dance at the Island Community Hall on the evening of March 14. The proceeds will go toward the Kidney Foundation. We all know the Jeffrey family has reason to show its appredia- tion for what the Foundation has been able to do for them. We trust others too will now support this worthy cause. For tickets please phone Bonnie Bell 985-2941 or Linda Jeffrey 985-2973. The Scout Movement is still alive and doing well even if we are not always made aware of their activi- ties. At this time the Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts would like to express appre- ciation to the Scugog Island Community Association for their donation toward equip-' ment, cupboards and to Alan Carter for his speedy service in building the cupboards. The Scouts are still hoping for an assistant leader for Mr. Haist. If you would like some information as to how you can help, please call Linda Jeffrey at the above stated number. This is very important for your boys. Last Wednesday evening 22 ladies of the Head U.C.W. met at the Port Perry home of Marie Clark. We were pleased to welcome 3 guests and trust they will come again. The theme of the evening centered around hearts and valentines. In the roll call we were requested to state ways in which we hoped to brighten our Feb. days. The answers varied from home decorating, community visit- ing, travel and no bills in our mail boxes. Appreciation notes were received from Mabel Strong and Elizabeth Stichmann. The year's activities were checked and approved for each month. This was appropriately followed by a reading on Kindness by Myrtle Manns. During preparations of a refreshing lunch, Myrtle Manns requested a list of words composed of letters within Valentine. The winner, Beryl Pearce had listed 57 words. The next highest was 41 words. The second service was held in the Community Hall in very comfortable and cheerful surroundings. We really had time to appreciate the lovely recent interior decorating in the Hall. Reports are that the work is proceeding so well that We'll be back in the Church Sunday. You may think you've landed in the wrong place when you see the changes. We wish to thank the 11 men who volunteered their service and found that they actually enjoyed work- ing along with neighbours and former school friends. We also owe a lot to two women who did lighter tasks and provided refreshements. Bonnie Gerrow, the treas- urer is now receiving several donations toward the improvements. Several cheques of $125. for a pew have been promised. Other donations have come from Sunderland, Toronto and Curve Lake from people who received their early Christian teaching on the Island and are so pleased to know that the present popu- lation hopes to improve and carry on by showing respect for God's house and then increasing their efforts in His work. No donation is too small, if you care to help. Just state in which area you are interested and your name will be recorded accordingly. There will be a meeting after church on Sunday as insurance is due again and there are new considerat- ions. Scugog-Grace by Christina Prentice The February meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Marvin Appleton. Roll call was answered by 13 members. President Florence Fra- lick opened the meeting with a poem - Love is life and Hymn No. 311. The devotional was given +by Hilda, Yvonne and Made- line, taken from 1st Corin- thians, Chapter 13. Report on church renovations were given. Plans for a wedding reception in the near future was finalized. A new price was set for banquets and receptions. We were reminded to bring articles for the hospital Spring Fair on May 2.
