Mr. Michael Grice, the guest conductor, led his mix- ed choir in four selections which ranged from "Tell Him No" of the old *'No, John" folksong genre, to three Hungarian folksongs. The Coquitlam Girls Choir presented a bouquet of songs and serenaded Cam Muir of the Senior Wind with "Squeeze Me." He respond- ed very nicely, blushing to match his sweater. Last of the vocal groups was the Coquitlam Jazz Choir which was an exciting reminder of the Port Perry bands and their singers of thirty-five years ago. The "do-ahhs' and "ooblie-oos" of Ted Grif- fen were vividly recalled. It was fun music and precisely rendered. Continuing on a light note the Port High "A" Band rocked the hall with some big band favourites, also of the 1940's. This stage band is always a hit with audiences and they keep getting better. Finally the Coquitlam. concert band thrilled the listeners with its style, precision and grace. Coquit- lam's Centennial School is made up of only Grade 11 and 12. (B.C.'s last grade before university) There are 200 students at the school and the forty-five members of the concert band are trained musicians before entrance to the school where they cont- inue their band training with 120 minutes a day of class time rehearsal. They were good. Mr. Grice is obviously a sensitive musician with a great love and knowledge of his music. The dynamics and flow of all the selections were most impressive. The audience was wonderful also, they stood to a man at the end of "Second Suite in F for Military Band" by Holst. It has been a most exciting week for all participating in this band exchange. Mr. Doug Williams, principal of P.P.H.S. made an eloquent address during the evening, speaking of the bonds of union strengthened across our country by this visit and the place of music as the soul of a school. Still to come is the Port Senior Wind Ensemble visit to B.C., March 7 to 14 and the fund raising activities to support it next Saturday, February 2ist; the Giant Auction and Flea Market at the -High School during the day and the Hugh Baird concert at Town Hall 1873 at 8 in the evening.
