14-- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., February 18, 1¥81 Midget tourney to be held here this coming July The Ontario Amateur Softball Association award- ed the 1981 Ontario Midget Elimination Tournament to Port Perry and District Minor Softball Association. during a weekend meeting in Toronto. The Tournament will be held on July 3, 4, 5. Last year, the first tournament in midget to name an Ontario Represent- ative for the Canadian Championship in P.E.I. was held in Port Perry with Binbrook winning here and the Canadian down east. Twenty-two teams took part last year. This year's Ontario Repre- sentative will travel to Swift Current, Saskatchewan July 29-August 2. The 0.A.S.A. in awarding the event to Port Perry were very impressed with the local committee, facilities for play and accommodat- ions. The location of Port Perry also allows teams to commute from the Toronto area. The Lakefront location is one of the finest softball complexes in Ontario. Bantams battle for 7-7 draw by Doug Whalen On Saturday, Jan. 17, 1981 our two bantam teams had a real battle of a game with the final score ending in a 7-7 tie. Michael Skerratt opened the scoring for Kinsmen at 3:38 of the first period, assisted by Aaron Cochrane. Aaron then put his team ahead by two, with the assists going to Michael. With 2:40 remain- ing in the period, Troy McCauley put the Plumbers on the board, assisted by Brad Fertil. Kinsmen scored twice in the second period, both goals by Jason Towns, the first unassisted and the second from Michael Skerratt. The third period produced close checking, with Reliable scoring once. Troy McCauley found the mark, assisted by Mark Andrews. Scugog Realty - 6 Sportsland - 2 Sportsland scored first, with Greg Fitzgerald netting one unassisted at 2:03. The Realtors tied the score on an unassisted effort by Jason Parson. Thirty seconds later, Jeff Parry put the Realtors ahead, assisted by Richard Larocque. In the second period, Scugog Realty scored three times, with Sportsland scoring their second and final goal of the ns game. Goals for the Real- tors went to Lee Phillips, Gregory Brawn and Jason Parson, with assists award- ed to Greg Brawn, Lee Phillips. Greg Fitzgerald netted Sportsland's marker from Jan Robertson. Only one scoring play in the third period and that was an unassisted effort by Gregory Brawn for the Realtors. (Sunday, February 15) Reliable Plumbing - 2 Sportsland - 0 The Plumbers shut out Sportsland 2-0in a very close checking game. The first two periods were scoreless. Then, 45 seconds into the third period, Mark Andrews netted one from Phil Teno. Mark scored the second goal for his team when they were shorthanded with seven seconds remaining on the clock, unassisted. Rob Vanuden earned the shutout for the Plumbers. Kinsmen - 2 Scugog Realty - 0 In another close match, Kinsmen shut out the Real- tors 2-0, with Dan Muldoon 'between the pipes for the Kinsmen. Jason Towns netted the first goal, unassis- ted at the mid-point of the first period. Then, midway in the second period, Aaron Cochrane scored from Michael Skerratt. PEE WEE HOUSE LEAGUE by Jeff Wray" Wes Lane-5 Lions-2 The Wes Lane team dominated the game from beginning to end. Scoring for Wes Lane was Craig Venning with one goal and one assist. Other goals went to Jamie Cannon with one goal and Paul Lane with one. Mike Brock had one goal and Todd Scomre had one. Assists went to Todd Reamsbottom with one, Darrin Scala and Bobby Orr with one assist. Lions goals were scored by Chris Parliament with one goal and Jeff Fedyk with one. Assists went to Kevin Cearns. Franks-6 Glen Vallie-2 Scoring for Frank's was Daniel Vernon with 3 goals, Gord Gettins with 1, and Phil Spencley and Calvin Brews- ter with one each. Glen Vallie goals were scored by Joe Forder with one, and Tim Maw with one goal. Brad Rumford played good between the pipes for Frank's. ATOM HOUSE LEAGUE by Doug Moore Scugog Lumber-8 U.AW.-2 In the first game of the day, Scugog Lumber trounced U.A.W. by a score of 8-2. Scoring for Scugog Lumber was Blair Bailey with 5 goals, Joey Jackman with 3 goals, assists went to Darrin Caudle with 2 and David Leroy with 1 assist. Scoring for U.A.W. was Kevin Gibson assisted by John Nottingham and also scoring was Shawn Nanay assisted by Jim Vernon. Marj. Tripp Realty-1 Swamp Garage-0 In a goaltender's battle, Marj. Tripp managed to come out on top with a 1-0 victory over Swamp Garage. Scoring for Tripp Realty was Tim Allsop assisted by Shawn Philips. Recording the shutout was Steven McTavish. Special mention should go to Chris McConnal who played well in net for Swamp Garage in a losing battle. BANTAM HOUSE LEAGUE Port Perry 1.G.A.-12 Emmersons Insurance - 5 We had another high scoring duel on Saturday but this time Port Perry 1.G.A. came out on top. Jeff Wray played a strong third period getting four out of five goals for I.G.A. Chris Watson scored a hat trick while Al Bouw- meester scored twice. Sin- gles went to Bill Samells, Mark Bouwmeester and Mike Fluke. Jeff Wray tallied a pair of assists with singles going to Chris Watson, Al Bouwmeester, Dave Travis, Jeff Wallace and Paul Walton. Scoring a pair for Emmer- sons was Lionel De Knecht, with singles going to Dan Tomchisin, Brian Goble, and Kevin Jackson.
