Beacock After attending the 24th Annual Sunderland Lions Club Music Festival in Sun- derland during this past week I'm' quite convinced that Seagrave and area has: some budding top-notch talent. Congratulations to Seagrave United Church Junior Choir who were the very proud winners in that class on Monday evening. This particular choir was not organized until sometime in October and due to the time, skill and effort of two very special and talented ladies namely Joan Lee and Fern Tobin they have certainly come. a long way. Con- gratulations to all and sincere appreciation to Joan and Fern for all their help! Mr. and Mrs. Ross Phypers and Mr. and Mrs. Doug MacDonald were honoured guests at the Shriners Royal Potentate Ball held on Friday evening in the Royal Suite at Toronto's Royal York Hotel the occasion being Donna's father, Mr. Donald McCron, being invested as the Royal Potentate of the Shriners Club. Sounds like quite an impressive evening! This weeks birthday greetings go out to Billy MacDonald, Melody-Anne ~Sommerville, Reg Abraham, Jean Wylie and Helen Ingram. Hope all of you had a happy day. Mrs. Cathy Elford and new baby were the guests of honour at a baby shower held at Marjorie Chambers where neighbours and friends gathered on Saturday evening: On Thursday eyening four- teen tables of euchre players turned out. The winners for the evening Ladies Flossie Aldred, Reta Cook, Dorothy Aird. Men Robert Aird, Michael Hicks, Reid Cook. The 4-H Junior Home- making Club have held three meetings at the Community Centre with eighteen girls attending. The girls are en- joying the cooking and finding out there .are so many ways to use eggs. Next Miss Carol Kane and Mrs. Marilyn Beacock recently co-hosted a bridal shower for gp, Miss Kathie Kane at the home of the bride's-to-be parents Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kane. The happy bride-to-be was the recipient of many lovely and useful gifts. On the subject of weddings may I on behalf of the community extend my warmest wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Davis who celebrated fifty years of marriage this weekend. Quite a milestone folks! We all wish you many, many more years of happiness. Mariposa Ski-Dooer's had a super time in Minden last weekend-we do hope that Roger can stay on his: machine next year, as Sandy "was" off this weekend Roger! We hope that Chi- quita (Bob) buys a new machine next year and that Bill will keep his room clean! Thanks to Sandy and Wayne for coffee and Lawrence for the arrangements he made - N.B. Congratulations toBradley 'Johnson and Christopher Carr who placed third in a duet at the Sunderland Lions Music Festival on Friday. Their class choir also won first place representing Mariposa Elementary School. All the winners from the various classes have been invited to attend a Festival of Stars Night on Tuesday evening in Sunderland. To some of those who weren't so lucky-better luck next year and keep trying. Last Saturday evening the Venturers, Scouts and Cubs held their annual banquet at Seagrave United Church along with their parents, leaders and honoured guests. Several awards were presented among them -was Best Sixers Group D Sixes Lee Beacock, Kevin Puckrin, Shane Branton, Herbie Hatch, Paul Wan- EN ASR Prince Albert news they will be learning how to cut up a whole chicken and debone it. The Community Centre board are planning another dance on March 21st. If you plan on attending call myself for tickets. Mr. and Mrs. Les Beacock were Wednesday evening dinner guests with their friends the Herb Swain's of Blackstock. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Pearson of Brooklin visited with their friends Bill and Earlene Armstrong on Sat- urday evening. The Les Beacocks were dinner guests with their son the Don Beacocks of Sea- grave one evening last week. Week-end visitors at the Donald Plain home were Mr. and Mrs. Allan Taylor of Oshawa. The congregation was treated on Sunday morning with a lovely duet by Elizabeth Munson of Prince Albert and Audrey Beau- champ of Port Perry. Archie Walker has suffered a serious heart attack this weekend and is presently a patient in the I.C.U. of Oshawa General Hospital. We wish for a rapid recovery for this gentleman. Many thanks to all the kind persons who contributed news items this week. We are very pleased to have Bob Sears home from hospital and we hope that he continues to rapidly improve. The church has recently purchased an organ and to ~help to defray the expense of this purchase a Roast Beef Dinner has been planned for March 17, 1981.
