The game was played as a benefit for leukemia-cancer research in the name of Jimmie Taylor. Mr. Taylor, , a Port Perry resident died of leukemia earlier this year. His father, Lee Taylor, dropped the puck for the ceremonial opening face-off. Doug Allin of Blackstock won the 50-50 draw and handed back his $32 winnings into the Taylor fund. The first period looked to be a blowout as the juveniles took a 6-1 lead after surrendering "the first goal by the Farmer's Terry Henderson. They dominated the frame after getting the tying goal from Captain Carl Durward and the go ahead marker from Mikkellsen. But the farmers surged in the second. period, closing the gap to 6-4. Chuck Heatherington scored to make it 6-2 and Kelly Lee set up juvenile defenceman Pat Taylor as a screen on his own goaltender Glenn Archibald, and put a shot into the lower corner. They drew within two goals with 6:47 remaining when Archibald C & B win three games C&B Livestock, rep- resenting the Port Perry Broomball Association won three games at the Central East Regional Champion- ship this past weekend at Brampton. The team was finally . "eliminated after two losses on Sunday, March 22nd, the last one coming at the hands of Cobourg by a 6-3 margin. The previous day saw C&B record its victories. They edged the North West area representative by a 2-1 count, whip Kawartha 9-1, and then needed an overtime petiod to defeat Lakeshore C&B adyanced to the regionals by Virtue of its first place finish in the six team PPBA. Put A Smile on Your Face, Test Drive A HONDA call KEVIN CANNON City-Centre 'Automobiles ty. bt Dundas St. East - Whitby 666-1772 - 985-8656 res. YOUR LOCAL HONDA DEALER couldn't corral a rebound. Both teams kept it clean for most of the game but it got out of hand once the juveniles gained command in the closing minutes of the third period. In the last minutes, there were three junior Farmers and two juveniles in the penalty box. The game was played under Junior hockey rules, with one referee and two linesmen. The juveniles caught fire once again after the Farmers came within two goals. A Thompson to Dickson to Mikkellsen passing play found the winger alone in the slot for a quick goal that gave Port Perry a 7-4 lead and Thompson struck 14 seconds later as he carried the puck down the right side after the face-off and slid the puck into the far corner, despite being closely checked. David Giannini, who coached the Bantam B's in the Port Perry hockey this season, scored 3:35 into the third period when he was left untouched in the slot directly in front of Ken Harman, who had replaced Archibald in the second period. He beat the diminutive puck stopper with a wrist shot. " Mikkellsen added a superb defensive play in the third period when he saved a sure goal by clearing the puck away from the crease just before Heatherington could slap it in. Don Kett and Lee picked up~ simultaneous minor infractions late in the game that forced the Farmers to play two men short for the full two minutes. Right wing Robert Cannon sped down his flank and blasted a slap shot in behind goaltender George Davis on the power play. The exhibition game was the first for the Juveniles since losing out to Stirling Blues in a hard fought series, which ended with a 9-8 loss on March 13th.
