Attend conference The Junior Farmers' Asso- ciation of Ontario will hold their Annual Conference at the Constellation Hotel, Toronto, March 27th to 29th. There will be 400 delegates from across the Province at this event. The delegates, representing Ontario County Junior farmers, will include Hugh McLeod and Brian Jones from the Brooklin Club, Leona Hackner and Stan Smalley - Uxbridge Club, Doug Rennie and Sandy McDougall - Port Perry Club, a ESP Scugog Libr EE Mrs. Anne Mulder is seen here picking up the Dutch books that Scugog Memorial Library has ordered for her from another library. With her Is chief Librarian Grace Milne. At present, we are also ordering German books for some of our patrons. Except for a few French books in our Children's Department, we~do not have foreign-language books ourselves, but they are readily available in many different languages from other libraries. We have a catalogue that lists all the books that are available. The Mariposa ladies group held a shower for Laurie Wilson at their March meeting. Laurie received many useful gifts for the new baby-to-be. Elections were also held with Janice Addison as our new President and Irene Manitius as the treasurer. Remember there are no Cubs this week. Also no play group on the 24th and 26th. The Seagrave Play Group will be going on a trip to Purple Woods Conservation Area on Thursday, March 26th. Please be at the Seagrave Church at 12:15 p.m. The price per family is $1.00 for the bus. The Beaver Banquet is on Saturday, April 4th at the . Seagrave Church. Baseball season is fast approaching, most of the teams have already booked diamond time. In trying to accommodate everyone practise time has to be scheduled around league games. As soon as minor ball is arranged each coach will receive a copy of the schedule for the summer. Coaches are still needed for minor ball. If you are able to coach or help, please contact anyone on the park board. Be sure to come to the musical evening at the Seagrave United Church, Sunday March 29th at 8:00 p.m. The evening is in support of the organ fund. A social hour with coffee and, light refreshments will be served after the concert. Mr. Walter King is a patient in the Oshawa General Hospital. The community extends its wishes for a speedy recovery Mr. King. There will be no Brownies this week. Congratulations to Emily Smith on her enrollment. The Brownies "are having a baking competition at the Seagrave United Church on Saturday March 28th at 1:30 p.m. After the judging, the baking will be auctioned at 2:00 p.m. The Brownies are to wear their uniforms. Brooks Limited of Oshawa in the amount of $2,312,536.00 was accepted by the Board. The addition will prcvide accomodation for 750 pupils and will include 18 general and special classrooms plus a new cafeteria, library and two science laboratories. Port Perry's Intermediate hockey club have reached the all-Ontario semi-finals after eliminating Sutton and Little Britain. The County of Ontario struck its tax rate for 1966 at 16.1 mills on Wednesday, March 17. This increase is one and a half mills over 1965. Total equalized assessment is $117,570,296. From this revenue, it is estimated that over 4Y4 million dollars will be expend- ed by the County. 10 YEARS AGO Wednesday, March 24, 1971 Council members and Department of Highways, District Engineer Mr. R. Dawson discussed re-con- struction of Port Perry's streets. The only streets expected to be paved this year are the main arteries - Queen, Lilla, Water and Scugog Streets. This is an independent job and the responsibility of Clairson Construction Company. In two weekend exhibition games the Flamingos travelled to Markham Sunday, March 20th and came out with a 4-1 win. Again on Monday night they had another win as they hosted Ajax. Final score 6-5. The Centennial Choir group gave their first public performance on Friday evening at the High School Auditorium. "Sound Trek," a local musical review was written by Mrs. Joan Godley and Mrs. Grace Hastings and was well received by the capacity audience. About 40 members of the various Fire Depart- ments throughout the county were on hand at the monthly meeting of the Ontario County Mutual Aid Association. They witnessed a fashion show of firemen's wearing apparel and equipment show.
