Sunday was a very meaningful day at the Island Church when Sunday School pupils were privileged to witness the official installation of four of their teachers by Reverend Clarke. The four who were able to be present were Mrs. Wilma Johnson, Mrs. Pat Henshaw, Mrs. Carol Hobbs and Laurie Anne Wilson. After pupils and teachers left for the Sunday School area, the installation continued when the acting secretary Mrs. Dorothy Freeman called other new officials to the front, namely Jim Heayn as an elder, Mrs. Pat Taylor as a steward and Mrs. Joan Aldred as treasurer of the '""'Grace", the installation and vows were different according to the responsible position. Each was welcomed by elder George Samells. Reverend Clarke is relating his services at this time to the Lenten Season. It was the second Sunday on the Passion or suffering of Jesus during the period following the Last Supper. On Sunday he reviewed the happenings in Gethsemane" and olive orchard near Jerusalem where Jesus took his disciples when he went to pray on the night of "his betrayal. associated this occasion with a Gethsemane period in our own lives when we all go through a period of agony and suffering and find it Reverend Clark... difficult to handle-if we are alone in it. Frequently, we are so busy with our own problems we can't see the sufferings of others. We are- happy with the renovations .and improve- ments in our church building for comfort, appearance and cleanliness. We appreciate two more 'donations from Scugog and we understand others will follow from more distant places. As we review the list of donors, we are impressed with the number of former residents or people formerly associated with the work of the Church. Why do they do it, when they will not be able to enjoy it? The answer is clear. They have faith that we may have help and put forth our best efforts to carry on the work which Jesus directed us to do. So now that we have the material requirements where do we go from here? Winter sports are over and we should turn our attention _to the meaning of the Easter - Season and figure out what it means for us and our families. We expect to see our Church filled with all the young families as well as the ~ older faithful members and not just on Easter Sunday. Our opportunities are passing faster than we realize. Those-who sponsored the St. Patrick's dance in aid of Kidney Foundation wish to inform you that all tickets were sold and they thank all those who helped make it such a success. We are sure you will enjoy the beef supper at the hall on Wednesday evening. The "Head" U.C.W. will be held at the new home of Mrs. - Beryl Pearce on April 1st and that's no' fooling. Roll call will require an article of craft for sale at Bonnie's Boutique at the Art and Craft Show April 25. Last Monday Mr. and Mrs. Harold Forder returned from a two week vacation in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Tripp have returned from their trip to the Bahamas. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Fralick's daughter Diane with husband and little girl have enjoyed a very different trip to Cuba. This seems to be quite a year for Island weddings and most of them are the children of people who have lived on the Island a long time. Last week four young couples, married in 1980, were presented with individual gifts of money and a "Good Wishes" wedding card from friends - and neighbours whose names were found inside the card.
