ol a Sr EIEN, PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., April 1, 1981 -- 9 Region gets no extra money for police Durham Region has come empty-handed in efforts to .get more money from the provincial government for the police budget, but Durham chairman Gary Herrema said Monday he is still hopeful changes can be made to reduce the expected tax increases for Scugog, Brock and Uxbridge Townships. Mr. Herrema said a meeting last week at Queens Park to ask for morey for police budget proved fruitless as Durham discovered it is not the only municipality in Ontario: looking for more money for police protection in 1981. Durham had requested $300,000 in additional funds this year for the police depaftment, whose budget is $2.3 million, or 19 per cent higher than last year. '"The province is not giving any extra money to anybody for police budgets this year, he stated. / However, Mr. Herrema did say that a meeting has been. set up for this week with the- Sroviveial inter- governmental affairs department in an effort to change the complicated factoring system which had led to wide discrepencies in the tax increases for each of the municipalities in Durham Region.
