Councillor John Wolters, chairman of -. council's finance committee said Monday that the '1981 draft ""budget has been completed for presentation. to council April 13th, and the funds for the fire hall addition are not "included. "There just is not enough money this year for that project," said councillor Wolters. The fire department had requested money for a two storey addition on the south side of the hall with the ground floor used ds storage for a 'new' truck which arrived three weeks ago. Without the addition, the department will either have to find storage elsewhere for one of 'the older trucks, or give it up. The Port Perry Star, along with 217 community newspapers across the pro- vince are pleased to announce a plan to honour the youth of this province through the Ontario Junior Citizen of the Year awards program. The program, which is the joint under- taking of the Ontario Weekly Newspaper Asti ion and CP Air is aimed at recog- nizing young people who have performed acts of physical heroism; overcome dis- gbling physical or psychological handi- ~~ caps) made a meaningful contribution to personal family well-being; or have been involved in some worthwhile community -. service endeavour. All too often hin. we pick up a newspaper, listen to a news broadcast, or watch a news telecast, our youth séem to be in the headlines. When you think about it you'll realize that the exploits of our youth are almost daily occurances, and variably tell of the problems the youth of today are causing society. When compared to the worthwhile contributions that our young people con- -tinually make, but of which we read or hear very little, we soon realize that bad news geems to outweigh the good news. It is this unrecognized group of young Ontarians, of which there are many. in Scugog Township, that CP Air and the community newspapers across the pro- vince are concerned. The Ontario Junior Citizen of the Year Awards Program is open to both boys and girls, between the ages of six and 18 years, and will run from mid-March 1981 to December 1, 1981. Competitors will be nominated by " Ontario residents who are aware of the .outstanding deeds or accomplishments performed by the youth of their commun- ity during the year. Nominations will be made through the 217 member papers of the OWNA, of which the Port Perry Star is one. Nomination forms will be available at We're looking for a Junior Ci tizen of the Year the Star office at 235 Queen Street, Port Perry, all community newspaper offices, as well as CP Air ticket sales outlets and all elementary and secondary schools throughout the province. In addition, nomination forms will be published period- ically in'this newspaper. When all nominations have been care- fully assessed at the end of the year, 15 of the most outstanding nominees as well as two groups of from two to as many as an entire classroom will be selected to re- ceive awards.
