«yy a -- Tr------ A complete a 26 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., April 1, 198) Small assembly plant in Port Perry Company lands western Canada orders A small steel fabricating and manufacturing company which went into production in Port Perry early this year is already starting to think about expansion. The company, which will be called Cypress Group, is located in a new brick building at the corner of North and Water Streets, a block from Port Perry's main street. . The company which now employs four people, including the owners, Gill Reid Jr., and his father, is now in the middle of completing an order for 300. push-carts, used for handling freight at truck and rail terminals. The 300 carts, which are completely assembled in the Reid's building in Port Perry are being shipped to truck terminals in Edmonton and Calgary. Mr. Reid Jr. told the Star last week that since the production began early this year, business has been good and he '"'does not anticipate any trouble getting new orders' for the freight handling carts in the future. The work includes the assembly: construction of the wooden platform, welding of the steel frame and the final painting. - Mr. Réid said the building was designed with a high ceiling which eventually will allow for steel fabricating and pipe pending. When that happens, an addition on the east side of the building may be necessary for space to continue with assembly of the freight handling carts. "Mr. Rei said they began looking for a suitable building site nearly two years ago and eventually selected the Port Perry location for several reasons: it was properly zoned, had full municipal services, and the price was reasonable. These more than make up for the fact .that getting supplies and other materials in a hurry from Toronto can be inconvenient. Mr. Reid said future endeavours may include the sale of swimming pool chemicals and other supplies, and the manu- facture of such things as swimming pool ladders. In the meantime, he'll be busy finishing the last of the 300 carts bound for Alberta.
