Twenty-three teams of enthusiastic girls and their parents enjoyed our township and the warm hospitality of our town's people. The four day tournament was run very smoothly with Scott Farndale places third in Toronto meet Junior Scott Farndale, one of two Port Perry High "School rebels competing in ~ the York University Invita- tional Track meet, took third place in his 800 meter meet in Toronto, Friday April 3rd.. Farndale had an excellent finishing time of 2:19. The race started at a quick pace. and the Port Perry ~ competitor found himself near. the end of the nine member field. He gained ground during "the secbnd half of the race. BE PAR ow TERT A AO § 754s + It was Farndale's third apperance of the season, and his second at the 800 meter "distance. He ran a 400 meter sprint in Oshawa last month. Senior Dan Millar also ran at the Invitational meet, which was held at the Metro- politan Toronto Track and Field complex at York University. In the petites Oshawa and + Ajax were pitted against one another final score saw Oshawa on top of the 7 to 4 score. In the Tween class Oshawa defeated Pickering 7-4. Junior. division Oro easily toppled Stayner 10-3. . In the Belle division Oshawa went home sporting gold medals after defeating Pickering 3-2 in overtime. Congratulations and best wishes to all the winners. One of the highlights of the tournament is the presen- tation of the "'Sportsman- ship" trophy. These awards represent a high standard of what Ringette is about. Port Perry Tweens and Juniors received these coveted awards. To Martha Franssen and her dedicated committee of workers hats off for a job well done. The outstanding participation by all the parents and kids, the Firemen, Kinettes, Port 'Perry Star, Arena Staff, all made this a weekend long to be remembered by all _ involved with Ringette in Port Perry. ; This was the scene in overtime during the final game between Oshawa and Pickering Belles as Oshawa player JoAnn Mar quis [Number 7] fired the tie breaking goal past Pickering goalie Betty Fuerst to - give the Oshawa Belles the gold medal.
