Blackstock and area news By Joyce Kelly John Lawrence and Mrs. Josie Hamilton are both improving following surgery in Toronto Hospitals. Mrs. R. Ford, M.- Graham and W. «Pearse are all patients. in Port Perry Hospital. A family gathering in. honour of Janet Lawrence and Blake Vanden Heuvel - who will be married in June was held at the home of Janet's grandmother Mrs.' Muriel Lawrence on Sunday, April 5th. Guests were from Port Perry, Sylvia and Jim Cookson, son Adam and daughter - Ann, who presented the bride and groom with corsage, from Newmarket Walter and Heather Lawrence and daughter Carolyn, from Newtonville, Janet's parents Bob and Jane Lawrence and son Steven, and Muriels brother and sister-in-law, Walter and -Wilhilimina Fowler and daughter Alma from Toronto. Everyone enjoyed a' lovely dinner. Many lovely gifts were presented to the bride and groom and a fine time was spent visiting. Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Asselstine were Vern's sister Eileen Yanciw and her, daughter Karen Little and girls Mandy and Melonie all of Mississauga. Mr. and Mrs. John Turcotte accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson of Port Perry have returned home from an enjoyable two week's holiday in Florida. On Wednesday Vera Asselstine had a pleasant surprise when her son Colin and daughter-in-law Christine, daughter Teresa and grandsons Darrell and Shane all of Oshawa came to wish her a happy birthday. John Hope and his fiancee Heather McLarty of Lucan 'spent last weekend with his parents Mr. and Mrs." Roy Hope and Beth. On Saturday Mrs. Wilbert Werry, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Werry and Joy attended the Open House in honour of "Mrs. Werry's sister, Mrs. Lola Dawson of Fraserville. This large family gathering was on the occasion of Mrs. - Dawson's 93rd birthday. . Mr. and Mrs, Roy Hope and Beth visited their son and daughter-in-law Ronald and Judy Hope's new variety store in Newcastle on Saturday. Kathryn and John Devins and four months old baby daughter Melanie of Iroquois Falls spent a few days with her grandmother Mrs. Roy Taylor during the. winter break. While here they visited other friends and relatives. Miss Giselle Shipiro and Mr. Dirk Shoulder, widely travelled British citizens and recently from Israel have been spending some time with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wright. Giselle is a friend of Walter and Audrey's, eldest daughter Lorna, who is presently teaching in a university in Japan. Nancy and Bob Bryans and Steve recently spent some time in Clearwater and Daytona Beach; Florida. On Tuesday the Ladies' Curling concluded a very successful year with an enjoyable jitney. At lunch- time all the curlers enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Rec Centre. Several lucky draws kindly donated by Marg Iripp Real Estate were made. Also all the ladies received a sample of Basic H courtesy of Kathleen Petrie. At the end of the curling each ady received a momento of he day. Appreciation was wxpressed Lorna Edgerton, Vice President Mary Mackie and Schedule Manager Helen - Green for arranging such an enjoyable ending to our season. Cartwright Central Public School Gymnastic Team competed on Friday, April 3rd at Sunderland School. After singing the W.I. grace, the 16 members present enjoyed copious Pot Luck dinner at 12:30 p,m. Following the dinner the Ode was sung and the Collect repeated. The minutes were read and approved. The corres- pondence read by the secretary Mrs. Samells, consisted of a. opt letter from the 4-H girls; the announcement of 4-H Achievement Day, April 24th at 7:30 pm. in the Rec- -reational Centre at Black-' stock. Some new regulations of Community Care and some letters from organi- zations advertising their coming events were read. The treasurer, Mrs. Bradburn, read the monthly financial report and the audited annual report which were accepted. The Convenors' annual reports were given as follows: Mrs. F. Hoskin - Education and Cultural Activities; Mrs. C, Adams. - Agriculture - and Canadian Industries; Mrs. H. Martyn - Family - and "Consumers' Affairs. The roll call was answered with fees for the coming year. one retiring president Mrs. Shortridge, thanked the members for their support. during her term of office, after which she called on Mrs. P.Van Camp to conduct the election for the 1981;82 term.
