The youngest groups skated to music from 'Bambi', and from the fawns struggling - manfully, through the wood- land animals to the creatures of the forest, kept the crowd delighted. The three featured skaters did double duty shepherding their charges. Also in the first half of the programme were perform- ances based on 'Oliver' and "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown". In the former, the colourful street urchins and realistic pick- pockets were well received. In the latter, the cheer- leaders and sellers of popcorn and cold drinks complemented a dashing game of baseball. Other highlights of the first 'half of the programme were impressive performances by .club pro Lynn Spagnolo and guest skater Heather Kemkaren, and by featured skaters Kim Roane, Janice Lally, Kim Dowson, Tracy Dowson ("Curtain Up'). Melissa Stevens, Jane Ann. McGill, Elaine Lally ("Bambi"), Tawni Newman, John McKelvey (""Oliver", Robert Akkerman and David Akkerman ("Charlie ("Brown"). The second half of the even- ing involved the older members of the club. The first number, "Annie", featured Sarah Labanovich and Stephen Akkerman with a group of orphans and a group of citizens of Hooter- ville. In "The King and I", groups of Siamese children and dancers supported the performances of Dana Forder and Kevin Gibson. Dancing again figured in "Brigadoon, with a set of couritry dancers -and one of kilted Highland dancers. Featured were Tracy Murray, Andrea Calloway, Kim Dowson and Tracy Dowson. A group of adult skaters performed to music from "South Pacific'. Featured skater in this segment was Georgia Brock. The final number before the . finale was a most impressive "Chorus Line', beautifully choreographed by the nine girls who performed with such vigor, precision and obvious enjoyment. Two very special surprises pleased audiences. at this year's review. One was the unannounced appearance of logal skater Dennis Johnston and his partner, MacBeth, who happened .to be in Port Perry and volun- teered to perform. They are presently preparing for the World Professional Champ- ionships to be held in Spain. The second was the appear- ance of guest skater Heather Kemkaren| Most fortunately; she was avail- able to fill in for the previously announced guest - skater, Kay Thomson, who was ill. Heather Kemkaren has been Canadian Senior Ladies Champion twice, and skated in the World Champ- ionship; she is presently out of the competitive field. She skated beautifully in both halves of the programme, delighting everyone with her sparkling double axels, double lutzes and double flips. Her skating shows magnificent control, notably in her beautiful layback | spins and in a spiral which she maintained for almost a full circuit of the ice. Most of all, she communicated to and shared with the spec- tators her own obvious joy in the beauty of fine skating. All in all, those who attend- ed thereview were treated to an evening of fine entertain- ment. To all who assisted in this mammoth production involving about 150 skaters (each in costume and make- up) must go a great deal of credit, particularly to teachers Rick and Barb Stephens and Lynn Spagnolo and te director Lynn Sparling, who pulled together a huge number of people and problems. This .was .a weekend to be remembered, and a'success that should make everyone look forward to next year.
