His wife, Doreen, is one of the leaders in the Ringette program. The board also has a Director who wasn't there last season but had been with them in previous years. Ron - McCallister was a founder of = the Scugog Jaycees organi- zation and has a long coach- ing and refereeing record in the area. There = were several nominations to fill the last two spots on the Board of Directors but all those nominated declined to stand: The remaining six men and women will return from this season. The list includes two women--Nancy McConnell' and Jan McCallister -- who have both been active as ticket takers. Hard working Doug Scott is back again. He coached the Midget and Bantam competitive teams this past years, served as OMHA con- tact man, and scheduled the ice time for the entire organizations. Dennis Wray, Don Steele, and Doug Moore all re-- acclaimed. All three men were convenors in the house league and Mr, Steele took on the added responsibility of coaching the Novices. -- Mr. Williams was also - annoyed with the lack of people willing to serve on the PPMHA Executive. "It's not a good policy," he exclaimed "but that's what we're up against." He added that there was routine discussion about practice times and ice rates but nothing concrete came of it. "It was a quiet meeting. _ It only lasted about an hour," he stated. The returning President concluded by saying that the new Executive will be meet- ing "in the next week or two"' to discuss plans for the coming season. High - School Chess club to a rout over a selected team from St. John's Train- ing School in Uxbridge, Wednesday, May 8. Bond picked up . eight victories over the St. John's boys and. did not suffer a single defeat throughout the day. He was one of three PPHS players to win all their games, In total; Port Perry won 38 of 45 games played, dropped only six games, and had one . stalemate. David Standish and Dan Millar each won seven games without a loss and Rob Rummenie won seven games while taking one loss and a stale mate. None of the PPHS competi- tors came home with a losing record. Only Mark Sturman lost three games but he won - five. Jeff Novasel was a last minute substitute for St. John's and he had only . learned to play the game the previous day. Subsequently, he dropped all of his matches. The dual meet was arrang- ed by Bill Rummenie, an employee at St. John's and father of Port Perry's Robert. He suggested the meeting to Dave McComb, the PPHS teacher who organized the school club and they set a date. Mr. Rummenie started the COSSA meet (From page 15) Compared to last year, Lisa McKinzey had an off day. She was the girls team MVP a year ago but came in fourth place in her heat in the Junior girls 80 meter' * hurdles. 4 The boys drew an absolute blank throughout the day. Field event men Warren Nicholishen, Ed Raffin, sprinter Paul Van Camp, Millar, and distance runners Robert Page and Hank Stoeck came away empty handed. Page and Stoeck were the only members who had to run 1500 meter heats and both were eliminated, failing to finish in the top six.
