Hicks Durham District President Concerned (From page 5) only one pool there will be much overcrowding as Birdseye is filled to capacity now. - To use the lake beach would require a life-guard morning till dark. There are also no washroom facilities at the beach opén to the public during the week. Are the merchants prépared to have children in swimming attire in and around the stores and on the streets. We feel the children will be "hanging around' the streets and the store fronts if suitable facilities for them to play are not made available. Our main concern is what will our youth be doing during their eleven weeks of summer vacation. Do you hayé alternatives? How any years will the property tied up? How much will it cost the municipality in the future when the facilities are given back to the township? would it not be more feasible to bring it up to the standards' now? Is there anything more worthwhile than investing in today's youth? We feel our council should consider this matter more seriously before dropping the issue. We are forwarding copies of this letter to our ~Ward Area Councillor and the owners of the property, Paramount Development Corporation. Writing on behalf of many concerned parents, _* JanTowns Marianne Free Port Perry involves a new lead line across the damaged glass, but some of the panes are so badly damaged they must be replaced completely, He says it is a slow job because the original lead in the glass panes has become so brittle with age. The large window near the top of the hall at the front of the building has some damage to it, and Mr. Balmforth feels it might be better to move the entire window closer to ground level Restoring the broken panes in the windows along the sides of the building has presented a bit of a problem because it is hard to match exacyly the colouring in the old panes. Mr. Balmforth, who works for a Toronto glass company, learned stained glass art work about five years ago from a master in the company's design division. In his spare time, he does stained glass Tiffany lamps, window hangings and custom windows, working out of his retail shop in Greenbank. Mr. Balmforth estimates that the cost of materials to' restore the windows in the community hall will be about $400. . He says that if labour time was charged to the committee, the restoration costs would be close to $1000. ot Pid REY Craftsman Mike Balmforth is donating his time to restore the lead stained glass windows. at the Green- bank Community Hall. He expects to have the work completed in the next couple of weeks.
