| -Janetville blasts Port Perry by 17-5 by Danny Millar Port Perry Canadian Tire Men's softball team has #hecome accustomed to come from behind victories in the early stages of the 1980 season. They couldn't pull it out of the fire on Wednesday, June 18 however, because they went into the last home ® inning trailing 17-5. That turned out to be the final score. It was one of the most loosely played games Port has had this year. They made ten errors and the combined pitching of Ken Irvine and Phil Cochrane was pounded for 22 hits. The seventh inning was the big one for Janetville, the visiting team. They scored six runs and knocked Irvine out of the box. Cochrane came on to pitch after Chris 4 Kleopfer hit a two run double through the hole in right center field. For Kleopfer, they were his third and fourth runs batted in of the game. Infielders Ken Bryant and *Robert Evans booted back to back grounders to give away another run, the second of three that Janetville got off Cochrane in the frame. Kleopfer hit an inside the park home run in the top of ? the third inning, at that time staking Janetville to a 4-0 lead. His blow was hit on a line to right field. Randy Crawford started to move in on it but the ball went over his head, and bounced to the fence. Actually, Port looked like they might make a game out of it when they came back in the bottom of the third with threc runs, making it 4-3. Don Phinney started with a single and Jay Williams 8 followed with another base hit. Evans hit into a fielder's choice, forcing Phinney at third. Williams was deliver- ed on Ron Redman"s drive to right and the other two runs FEES: LOCATIONS: TOWNSHIP OF SCUGOG invites you to join in 'FUN IN THE SUN' 1980 Summer Playground Program All Children Ages 4 to 12 are Welcome. DOWNHILL After that it was all down hill for the home team. Janetville tallied in every inning except the fifth from then on. Port replied with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Phil Cochrane tripled in the sixth and scored on Bryant's sacrifice fly to left field. Williams got the last point for Port Perry in the next inning when he tripled to the right field fence, his power ally, and scored on Redman's double to centerfield. After Redman hit the run producing two bagger, Janetville switched hurlers ER PI ASL i i Ly } a 3 AT y : AH a HEN A 2 ivi Fa Fe po Saks ik 0 "re gad : PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, June 25, 1980 -- 13 from Roger Chorney to Dave SI NCE : 1 973 Mills. Mills retired the side without a run but not without a controversy. Charlie Durward walked after Redman had hit. Both advanced a base and then Durward tagged on a fly ball. Redman stayed at third momentarily but when he saw Durward was right on top of him, he headed for home. He scored but Durward was caught in a rundown. The run was dis- allowed even though Red- man had touched home plate before Durward was tagged. Janetville completed the killing in the top of the ninth by scoring twice when Rick Kirk doubled home a pair of baserunners. Separate licence will be needed for moose, bear Combined hunting for deer and bear or moose and bear have been eliminated by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. The reason the Ministry gave for the change is that the combined licence made it difficult to compile statistics that would be necessary for the preservation of .the in- dividual animal. James Auld, Minister of Natural Resources, explain- ed the changes, saying they were easier for the hunters to understand. "The revi- sions will make it less con- fusing to the public and more in keeping with present game management prac- tices," Mr. Auld said. The separating of the licences was one of several changes made by the Minis- ter. The expiration date for DDO DO DDD DID DDDIDDDDDDDDDDDLDLDLDLLLLLHLHLLLH00.000000080000800H008080H80000800. This applies only to Ontario residents. There have been two changes in deer hunting regulations. Now a hunter can take a deer only if it has one antler greater than 7.5 cm in length. That is, unless if there is an antlerless deer validation tag, which the hunter must have on the back of his licences. The other change now requires bowhunters to place an archery tag on the back of the deer hunting licence before they can use archery equipment. This tag will cost $1.00. Residents in the Southern Region need a basic small game licence for the - September 1 to March 31 season. Resident hunters can buy a summer small game tag for their licence, making it valid for the April 1- August 31 season, at a cost of $5.00. Non-residents currently need a tag to attach to the small game licence if they want to hunt small game or game birds on a hunting preserve. This too, will cost $5.00.
