The Scugog Chamber of Commerce has completed its street beautification project for this summer by- placing approximately 75 planters with flowers, trees and shrubs along the business section of Queen Street, and Port Perry Plaza. The planters were placed last weekend, and according to C of C President Miriam Price, some of the plants and shrubs are already missing. She went on to say that it does not appear as though any of the planters have been damaged, but the plants are It is the hope of the Chamber of Commerce that local merchants along the street will keep an eye on the plants, watering them when necessary and watching for vandalism. "We have provided the containers and plants, with some help from the council," the president stated, "Now we would like our members help keep them looking nice." Ontario Youth Concert Band. Laural « Holtby and Mary McKelvey won places in the band after auditioning in Toronto in October. There are about 40 university and high school students from across the province in the band. Two vocalists and a group of about 10 folkdancers will also accompany the band on their tour. This group of young musicians and dancers will entertain audiences in England, France, Switzer- land, Austria, Lichtenstein, and West Germany. Their program includes a great variety of light music from pop and folk to medleys from favourite musicals. Laural and Mary will spend two weeks, commenc- ing on June 18, rehearsing at McMaster University. On July 2nd they will leave for their 4 weeks of travelling. It's a busy schedule but it's sure to be a fantastic _ experience.
