22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, June 17, 198) - News from Nestleton, Caesarea area by Mabel Cawker - Presbyterian Ladies' Aid The June meeting of the Ladies' Aid was held at the home of Mrs. Cecil Wilson Port Perry. President Mrs. Stan McNeely welcomed thirteen members and open- ed the meeting with a hymn followed by a personal Prayer by each one. Mrs. R. Davison gave a splendid Devotional on the theme '"Rejoice" with Scripture reading and "Let's Have A picnic" from the Pres- byterian Record stressing the part that rejoicing, happiness and laughter play in the Christian life. During business, members discussed the Flea market for June 13 and plans were finalized for same. Also, the possibility of purchasing Commemorative Plates for the Church. Roll Call was answered with a favourite Scripture quotation. Program _ . Mrs. Gillson read a history of John Newton, Minister and Hymn writer. Miss Ruth Proutt gave an informative talk on the writers and history of old familiar hymns. Mrs. W. Blue Ray Chapter Celebrates 33 Years of Progress Eleven members from Cartwright attended Blue Ray Chapter, No 238, Order of the Eastern Star, held in the Masonic Temple, Queen St. Port Perry, Thursday evening June 11, "hosting" a large number of guests from surrounding Chapters for a "Gala" Birthday celebra- tion. : Members from the follow- ing Chapters included: Durham, Sunbeam, Whitby, Aloha, Willowdale, Scar- borough, York, Markham, Lake of Bays- Huntsville, Brampton, Laurel and loyal members of Blue Ray. Many distinguished guests were escorted to the East and made welcome by Worthy Matron Stella Dennis and Worthy Patron Arnold Taylor. It was great to see District Deputy Grand Matron Joan Esdale and a number of past D.D.G.M's present. Presiding matrons _and Patrons were greeted. Past Matrons and Patrons of Blue Ray as well as those from other Chapters were heartily welcomed. - A very special welcome was given to Charter members by the Matron and Patron. After Chapter closed entertainment was provided by a delightful foursome from Scugog Island namely Joan Aldred, Bonnie Ballin- gal, Bonnie Bell and Florence Fralick. The girls were versatile and presented a variety of harmonious numbers much to the enjoy- ment of all present. . Appetizing refreshments were served under the capable supervision of Kay Walker and committee Bernice Mairs, Doris Not- tingham and Marguerite Mitchell. A beautifully decorated Birthday Cake graced the centre of the table and the cake cutting cere- mony was performed by W.M. Sister Stella and W.P. Brother Arnold and pictures were taken. To round out the evening a Birthday Draw was held on the beautiful Quilt and the lucky winners were: 1st prize- Quilt: Bonnie Corby, 41 Connaught St. Oshawa. 2nd prize winner- $15.00 won by Pam Mulligan, Box 274, Pontypool and 3rd prize $10.00 won by Mrs. R. Schillaci, Pickering. A sincere thanks to one and all for making the evening such an enjoyable event. Family Activities Katharine Jane Sniitko, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Smitko, was baptized in St. Gabriel's Church, Willowdale, on Sunday, June 7. Forty-five relatives and friends were in attendance and following the ceremony a luncheon was held on the lawn. Those present from this area in- cluded Mrs. Evva Davidge, Great grandmother, Bernice Davidge, great aunt, and grandparents Bob and Ruth Davidge, and uncles Bob and Jim, all of William's Point. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Fish, Lisa and Laura of Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Smith and Penny of Hampton, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Jacobs, Deanna and Rhonda, Black- stock, wére guests of 'Grahame and Neta Fish, Nestleton, on Sunday, June 7, for a family birthday party. Lisa, Deanna and Penny were celebrating. Many more happy birthdays to the girls. Grahame and Neta also welcomed their new grandaughter Laura -3 weeks old. A fine get-to- gether for the family. On Wednesday, Grahame. and Neta Fish went by bus with the Blackstock W.I. to the Milton Museum and enjoyed viewing the many buildings, and had lunch in the W.I. Hall. On the return trip home they shopped and had supper at the Scar- borough Centre. . Fred and Faith Lawrence, former residents of Toronto are now living permanently in Caesarea, Fred has rercently - retired from General Electric in Toronto. We do extend a warm welcome to them from Caesarea area. Congratulations! to Henry and Terry Wygerde, Nestle- ton, on the birth of their baby boy Eric Joseph - born in Pop Perry Hospital this past week. : Caesarea Euchre News First prize winner - Judy Westall -83; Second Tom Robbins -81; Low- Dorothy Vader with 47. This Wednes- day evening (to-night) as usual for an interesting even- ing. ' Court Lady Snowbird LI930 Twelve members of Court Lady Snowbird enjoyed a delicious dinner at Haugen"s Chicken Barbecue on Monday evening, June 8th. A short informal meeting followed the dinner. A lovely Afghan was donated to Court Lady Snow- bird by Mrs. Pearl Gilbank. This will be raffled at the Bazaar in November. Many thanks Pearl, it is very much appreciated. On June 13th a table of baked goods and miscel- laneous items will be for sale at the Flea Market. The Patio set to be on display and tickets sold. The draw to take place that afternoon. An invitation was rec'd for June 24th to a joint installa- tion at Bowmanville. Pot luck dinner at 7:00 p.m. with meeting to follow.- Com- mittee in charge of Meals on Wheels for June is Irene 'Train and Carol Mairs.
