The "Head" U.C.W. met on Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Marion Carter 15 ladies were present in- cluding Mrs. Pat Fulcher's " mother as a guest. Several members were absent due to the holiday time. Doreen Adam's group was in charge. We missed Doreen's leader- ship as she has been in Spite) a couple of weeks a troublesome virus. The theme of the program was Canada Day and began with the hymn "Our loved Dominion bless." Marilyn Heayn read scripture from 11 Corinthians when Paul described some of the things that had happened to him in his country. Betty Reader read the lesson "God's Country' and offered a prayer for our country. Reta Reader read a story from the Observer describing the controversy over the choice of a professor outside of Canada for Emmanuel College. The Roll Call required us to suggest something that native people or immigrants had contributed to Canadian culture. Appreciation correspon- dence was received from: the 3 daughters of the late Mrs. Elizabeth Day and an earlier card from Mrs. Mabel Strong. 'We were reminded from the minutes that a couple of the members had purchased material and fashioned long white aprons and caps to be worn by members when serving refreshments at pioneer activities. At the Island church on Sunday the children -cer- tainly were missed and therefore their parents too. It was noted that only two young mothers brought their little ones along. Island vacation seems to start earlier each year, We have only three Sundays left in July and then a complete vacation in the church for the whole month of August. So let us take advantage of the July Sundays to attend the service. For next Sunday Rev. Linstead has announced a favourite hymn. In his sermon taken from Luke 5, he reminded us how Jesus had exhorted the fishermen who were tired, discouraged and had given up hope to launch out into the deep and let down their nets. For us the message is that we must seek the deep things of God and avoid the shallows of spiritual pursuits. Three men who were building a great church were asked what the job meant to them.
