This was the eighth year the tournament has been held at Sunnybrae with club owner Henry Paukstys dona- ting the course for the day's events. The Oshawa Tartan Tavern team recorded the lowest best ball (with handi- cap) score for the day, 20 under par, to win the team prize for the second straight year. They earn a trip to the National tournament August 17 at Glenn Abby where teams from all over Canada will compete with proceeds going to the Mentally Re- tarded. The Tartan team won the national tournament last year so the members will be working to defend their title. Sunnybrae tournament organizer Terry Kelly said Saturday's event was again a financial success with more than $10,000 being raised for the mentally retarded. Low gross honours were captured by George Burnett of Port Perry who fashioned a one over par 72. And the team of George, Gary Edgar, Grant Menzies and Dick Shinn of Port Perry finished with a 19 under par best ball score for second place. Even the weatherman co- operated for this year's tournament, with just a brief shower in the morning and another late in the day. CHUM Radio Stars set todo battle with Firefighters This coming Saturday, July 11, the benefit softball game between the Scugog Firefighters and the CHUM Radio All-Stars will be held at the Joe Fowler Park on Water Street in Port Perry.
