Lions battle to tie with Oshawa by Coach Barry Page The Port Perry Lions Club Bantam soccer team played extremely well last Thurs- day against the number one Oshawa Fernhill team. The final score was a 3-3 tie. . Port had only eleven players while the Oshawa team had two extra players. This made it difficult because the team couldn't spare off while Fernhill was changing regularly through- out the game. The boys played a well disciplined game and controlled the game quite often. They had many opportunities to score but just missed on most of them. This tie puts the record to 3 ties, 2 losses, 2 wins. The team is very close to first place, but are pres- ently in fourth. The competi- tion is very close with all the teams bunched together with just a few points separating them. Local couple 3rd in lawn bowling The second open tourna- ment of the season was. played on a very hot and humid day. However the three games were completed and a Port Perry pair Harold and Clara Martyn won the third prize. Due to so many outside entries, only two local teams played. The other four prizes were won by couples from Oshawa, Lindsay and Cannington. On Thursday July 9, a Port Perry ladies trio, Clara Martyn, Alma Cox and Beth Martyn played in the Jennings Gold Cup Tourna- ment at Cobourg and won three games. Twenty two teams from Kingston, Brighton, Port Hope, Peterboro, Oshawa and Cobourg played in this tournament.
