Blackstock and District Lions A directors meeting was held on Wednesday, July 8, 1981 at Kerry Umphrey's home. It was opened by Pres. Ray Wright. They decided that at the dance on October 10, 1981 there would be a band instead of a D. J: Money has been made available to sponsor a class in the Blackstock Tractor and Truck Pull. There is already interest in the Turkey Supper for September. Jan Gerrow also celebra- ted the above occasion by presenting her family and the community with another little son, Scott. Congratula- tions Jan and Jim. We are sorry to report Mrs. Horatio Kane of Sunset Beach in failing health and in the Port Perry Hospital. At the church service we were pleased to welcome Mrs. Hamelinck's mother from Holland and visitors from other churches that are 'closed for vacation. Tho' the numbers may be smaller during summer there is an atmosphere of informality and more time to chat. Rev. Linstead based his sermon on the feeding of the 5000, when the multitude was so amazed. They concluded that His power was so great He would be an ideal person. to lead them against the Romaris. But Jesus was not prepared to agree with their materialistic viewpoint and found it necessary to go to a - Mt. retreat to meditate and learn again the will of God. So, we must all seek a quiet time when we get disgusted with the life we see around us. Man cannot live by bread alone. The Island Church will be closed for vacation during August and therefore Rev. - Linstead will not take another service on the Island until September 6. However he will be available for hospital visiting and other services. Rev. Clarke will take the remaining July services. During _August, Manchester church will be open and they will be pleased to welcome anyone who wishes . to attend from Scugog. Every Sunday we admire and appreciate the complete new set of Communion Glass Holders put in place prior to Rededication Sunday by Allen Martyn. His design- ing, time, material expense and labour were all donated in memory of the late Catharine Martyn who had a great interest in the Island Church and community and had given much of her time and energy to it while she lived on the Island. She would have been very pleased with this meaningful memorial. It was regretable that a few additions were a little late for printing in the bulletins. Thanks, Allen, your family and community appreciate this gesture. Two ladies have added beauty around the church property : with flowers and care. They don't want their names mentioned but we do appreciate their work and thoughtfulness. This is so different from the family who chose to give pleasure to motorists by hanging potted flowers from their mailbox, only to have it stolen. I wonder if the culprits are enjoying those flowers. On Sunday a kind friend informed us that Mr. and Mrs. Stan Ploughman of Port Perry were enjoying their 62nd Wedding Anni- versary. Flossie Samells and Stan were married 'in 1919 and lived on Con. 10 of the Island directly east of the Island Church until 1927. Tho, the couple did not have sons, Stan, always took a great interest in boys and devoted many years of his busy life to the Scout move- ment. To-day many men have fond memories of his leadership. Flossie was recently chosen as Queen of the Senior Citizen Club. Congratulations Flossie and Stan. We wish you many more years to celebrate. EM ig ph BLN fr hp AR A A ton.
