On Saturday, September 12th, we are holding our - Durham District Semi- Annual Conference ' at the YWCA, Oshawa. Mrs. Joy Goudge of Durham Regional Health Unit and Mr. Keith Marlowe of Family Counselling, Division of Social Services, will do an afternoon workshop about '"Honesty with our Children about our Sexuality." The purpose of this conference is to put people back in touch with our Chapters, ourselves and most of all our Family, with good advice, practical common sense and sensitive perception. We hope to be able to point out that problems of intense concern to you, are not unique or confined to your own family. You will find others who experienced problems, solved them or simply survived them. There is an apparent need for us to be able to talk about our sexual family needs. If you think about the process of our life; the trust and the similar i One Parent Families 4 meet Sat. Sept. 12 sincerity of the request for advice; the warmth and intensity of the feeling among our families, that grows steadily throughout each year; the mixture of hesitancy and commitment in our own personal exper- -iences; the confidence that actually' other people listened and cared - could we not say that we have demonstrated and exper- jenced some of the very values and behaviour that we believe to be at the heart of our beliefs about the nature of our families? The essence of family is: the willingness to contribute part of one's self to a greater whole, to join your identity with that of others, to grow '"'with'"' one another and decide a course in life together, not separately. To love each person not for what he does or makes, but simply because he is himself. It's the responsibility of all of us individually to ensure that there is a better life for our family.
