CRAG dean Ee ba IAS AS PRR 2 POR SIL R SCAT : Scugog Island by Mrs. Earl Reader On Wednesday evening 22 ladies met at the home of Mrs. Clara Dowson for the "Head" U.C.W. We were pleased to welcome Doreen Adam's mother, Mrs. Hanley and Bonnie Gerrow's mother, Mrs. Stephen. Naturally, the theme of the meeting Devotion was based on Thanksgiving, thro' .a hymn, Scripture and Prayer by Marion Carter, Helen Hortop, Reta Rodman and Clara Dowson. In the roll call, the ladies were requested to name their favourite colour and the reason for their choice. This brought forth many interesting thoughts and you might be surprised to know that blue seems to be a favourite choice. Notes of appreciation were received from Phyllis Lambert, Mrs. Duff and the Linsteads, as well as several invitations to church functions in neighbouring areas. Anne Alstein read a letter of appreciation from a guest at her son's wedding for the catering service by our members. Now we are looking for- ward to our mystery sister supper at Island Hall, November 25, gifts to be around $3. We should attend the Presbyterial meeting at St. Paul's Bowmanville, October 26 at 9 a.m. We take one day's pay and Jack Frost knitted items. Reta Reader read Leprosy mission information re their work in which used postage stamps help. The savings for this project were first saved by means of the original piggy banks. Now, we all get used stamps and it isn't asking much to have you save them for us to send to the mission. The church on the Island welcomed many visitors on Sunday. For the 4th Sunday, S.S. attendance increased. This certainly encourage the teachers who are spending ~much time to: make - {.. studies interesting and meaningful. Congratulations and thanks to the talented ladies who decorated the church to remind us of the Thanksgiving season. The choir is certainly showing fresh interest. Their appropriate anthem was "The Old Country Church". But we wonder if Island men and boys don't sing, as there "aren't too many who offer their talents. Naturally, we considered the things for which we were thankful. SANDWICHBAR Open 9°00P.M.to NOON one was the sunshine and an opportunity to enjoy nature in all its glory-on the week end without rain. Then our thoughts branched out. In consideration of the trouble in other lands, in comparison with our own, we are a very fortunate people. But some- times, in the days of supply we are guilty of the sin of forgetfulness. We forget how dependent we are upon others and have a tendency to give ourselves all the credit. Even Moses 'cau- tioned his people against this lack of thankfulness. Rev. Linstead is an avid reader and has a treasury of stories of the lives of people who have enriched the lives of others. On Sunday, we were made aware of the work of Cardinal Newman and John Wesley and even small Congregations. Next Sunday, your are invited to the Island Anni- versary service at 11 a.m. even if you didn't get a letter. New people are frequently moving in and we have no way of knowing unless you come out among us. Note the special ad, November 1 will be Baptismal Day. Any parents who are interested are invited to call Rev. Linstead.
