The choirs with 25 members certainly did a super job. We noted 3 new members among the Juniors and 6 visiting assistants - among the Srs: Faithful Maurice Fralick was missed as he received a physical ~ injury on Friday while using a riding mower. The music was outstand- ing. The choirs sang - He Keeps Me Singing a Happy Song. I have a peace in my heart. Get all excited and a request number - "Just a Closer Walk with Thee". It seemed as if we could have listened to Norman Watson and Irvin Gibson again and again as they sang their request duet "Because He Lives". We certainly did appreciate them bringing their talents to us. The guest speaker - Rev. McKay brought a brief but direct message based on the Scripture story of the Loaves and Fishes and the con- clusion was that christianity, when shared, grows beyond our imagination. There are people who do not wish to share anything in case there is not enough for us. About 80 people who wor- shiped in the Service, found they could not remain for the refreshments and social period. It was noted that we were celebrating the 35 Anni- versary since the present brick building had been officially opened. This aroused curiosity as to the origin of the church on the present site. Upon .a review of the records you may be interes- ted to read the following historical note:- The present © ECONOMY COMPACT STANDARD & FULLSIZE church site had its origin in a small frame. structure on Con. 10 or 11 a half mile east of Aldred's store and was later moved to the present site. (The "Head" museum church was built in 1860) The congregation was known as Bible Christian at first. After fire destroyed the building with its additions, the Indian Church along with the Foot Church were dismantled to help supply some materials for the present brick building which was built in 1943 and officially opened in 1946. The congregations of the Foot and Indian Churches were invited to share the Worship in the new "Grace" church. The people of the "Head" still retained their own with the same minister. * In 1960 the Island Boards with Rev. Braham declared it to be the Official Island Church as. "'Scugog United Church". In "Mar 1976, Presbytery was requested to register the official name as "Scugog Island United Church", as the name of Scugog was now given to several surrounding areas as well as the island to become the new township. However, the name of "Grace" is frequently used to describe the church. Congratulations to Mr. Oliver Reader of Casimir St. in Port Perry who celebrated his 98th birthday on Satur- day. Mr. Reader spent most of his life on the Island and still takes a great interest in planting and harvesting his potato crop. Last week we gave you the executive for the Mother's Auxiliary for the Guides and Brownies, but the Scouts, Cubs and Beavers also have one as follows:- President - Marilyn Fitchett; Treasurer - Dannielle Anthony; Secretary - Barb Ross. The two auxiliaries will work together for a Bake and Craft sale November 21 in the Island church basement. Sorry to learn of the passing of a former Minister of the Bethany Charge with whom (Yelverton) were associated for several years in the person of the former Rev. R. R. Bonsteel of Stratford. Also to report the passing of the mother of our former ministers wife (Mr.s Art Rodgers) in Belleville. Deepest sympathy is extended the families of both the deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Art Rowan were Saturday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Keith Baker- and family of Etobicoke. Our community woke this Monday October 19. to its first snow as the landscape was covered with a thin blanket of the white stuff. A gentle reminder. to get our storm 'Windows up! A more" Mr. and Mrs. Marti Malcolm were Saturday evening guests of Pam and Doug Sinclair of Oshawa. In our account of the Girls Dance in Millbrook we neglected to monitor at least one significant detail. A moments silence was -observed in memory of Bob Larabee who passed away suddenly a couple of weeks' ago. Mr. and Mrs. Larabee coached the Yelverton girls team and their daughter Janet is a member of the Yelverton team. The members of the girls team were particularly: shocked and saddened to learn of his passing. The Larabees live in the Oshawa area.
