Fund raising to get started for lights at Greenbank park A fund raising drive in Greenbank will get under- way to raise money for a set of flood-lights at the baseball diamond in that community. Rod Foster, chairman of the Greenbank Hall Board told Scugog council Nov. 9th, there were seven baseball teams using the diamond this past summer, and flood lights "would double the amount of playing time available." He told council that initial estimates for a six-pole lighting system put the cost at about $15,000. saying that most of this money could be raised in the community, he wanted to know what kind of grants or municipal funds might be available. _ Township administrator Earl Cuddie said that while it is fairly easy to get approval for money for these kinds of community projects from Wintario or through the Community Centres program, the waiting period to actually receive the While money can be as long as two years. Although council took no action at the meeting last week, councillors indicated that if a substantial portion of the costs could be raised in the community, there could be some help from the muni- cipality for the balance. In the past, the Township has "bridge financed" portions of similar projects, that is paying the bills until grant or other funds are raised or received. Mr. Foster said that once the funding is in place and a decision made to install the lighting system, the actual work could probably be done in a very short time. He noted that the Green- bank Gamblers senior mens fastball team won the league championship this fall in their first season in this competitive league. However, without lights at the ball park, there is chance. the league will not allow the team to compete next year, he said. a Sp} JUNIOR "C" HOCKEY ScugogArena-Port Perry SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 22 Little Britain Merchants VS \ iy : . . g g \ y : : x } : | ; : R x y J : .
