With less than a month to go before December 1st, closing date for nominations to the Ontario 'Junior Citizens of the anjer program, no nominations have been made from the Scugog area. The purpose of the awards is to provide recognition for . outstanding achievement or acts of courage and initiative Library fund drive goes on The Fund to finish and equip the new Scugog Memorial Library received a big boost over the weekend, coming from several different sources. It was announced at the *'Golden Oldies" dance on Saturday night that two large pledges had recently been received. The first was a pledge of $1,500 over three years by the newly formed Rotary Club of Port Perry. This donation represented the first community project 'by this new service club in Scugog Township. It is hoped that many more similar contributions will be made by this organization over coming years to other worth- while community projects. It was also disclosed that Mr.Stephen Roman, thfough the Stephen B. Roman foundation and Denison Mines Limited, will be "making a $5,000 donation to the furniture fund for the new library. This generous donation to the project will bring Mr. Roman's contri- butions, personal and cor- porate to a total of $11,000 since fund raising began. Final figures were not avail- able immediately at the . dance. At 12:00 midnight the winning ticket in the 50-50 draw was pulled out of the hat by Mayor Jerry Taylor. Former Regional Councillor and long time library supporter Gerry Jackman won the draw and immedi- ately donated the excess over $1,000 back to the furni- ture fund. This last donation, being approximately $500, brought the announced weekend receipts to almost $10,000. Sa All of the above informa- tion was well received by a large and boisterous crowd of library supporters at the fund raising dance. Fund raising tickets were announced indicating that in excess of $140,000 has been raised to date by the Fund - Raising Committee. A further $19,000 is being sought by the Committee before it winds down at the end of December. The Fund Raising: Committee has a number of ongoing projects running to' the end of the year, all worthy of commun- ity support. The 12 winners will also receive savings bonds and 'awards from Lieu- tenant Governor John Aird, and an added bonus of an overnight trip to Toronto to take in the city's attractions.
