ANS 1, x AAA A STAC SUAS FRAN ARR CAD AEH 2X13 SE SRA 14 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., November 25, 1981 - PA - et ~ ) J 4 There was plenty of action around the Little Britain goal Sunday night as Port Perry MoJacks hammered the visitors 14-4, and at one point had built up a 10-0 lead before the Merchants could get on the score board. MoJacks also won Saturday night 12-9 Ringette teams in tourney BY Jeannie Muir and Wendy Burton The Sportsland Juniors and Chris Allen Aluminum Tweens went to the Stayner Ringette Tournament this past weekend. Thanks go to the parents who bared the snow storm to drive the players to this tournament. The Chris Allen Tweens played their first game against Flamborough. They went on to a 4-0 victory over Flamborough. The scoring was done by Heather Muir 3 and Heidi Meisner 1, with assists going to Coleen Scala, Bobbie Jo Heaps. The Sportsland Juniors played their first game against Elora in a real cliff- hanging game. . The score was tied 7-7 at over Stouffville Clippers and have jumped into fourth spot in the league standings. A crucial test is coming this Saturday night when the powerful Bowmanville Eagles pay a visit to the Scugog Arena. the end of regular time and the game went into a 5 minute overtime. Sportsland Juniors won the toss so they ended up with possession of the ring. About 1 minutes into overtime and the Juniors hroke the tie and took the lead with 22 seconds left in overtime the juniors scored another goal just for insurance. Goals were scored by Kelly Raines 7, Stephanie Butt 1 and Kelly Storry 1. All players put out a great effort and came along way in the game to win: The girls were all billeted by Stayner families and from all reports a good time had by all. The coaches and managers had two some- what tired teams to put on the ice on Sunday. But all teams were in the same position. So we just had to get up for the game and get at it. Sports by John B. McClelland The Port Perry MoJacks continued to put a lot of rubber behind opposition goalies as they grabbed two . weekend victories. and scored a total of 26 goals in the process. Sunday night at the Scugog Arena, ModJacks rubbed the Little Britain Merchants 14-4, and on Saturday in Stouffville they hit double numbers for a 12-9 victory over the Clippers. The back-to-back wins vaulted MoJacks into fourth spot in league standings, and the Stouffville victory was the first time this season the team has won on the road. MoJacks are now un- beaten in their last six outings (four wins and two ties) but the first major test for the team comes this weekend with a home and home series against the tough Bowmanville Eagles. Against Little Britain, the MoJacks jumped into a 6-0 lead after the first period, extended that to 10-1 after forty minutes, and added four more in the final frame of what was a chippy, pen- alty filled game. : MoJacks took 51 minute in penalties, while the Merchants were called for 37 minutes including a major and game misconduct to Barry Johnston. i Todd Wilbur led the team with four goals and four assists while defenseman Charlie Brown rapped home a hat trick and added two assists. Singles went to Carl Durward, Tim Thompson, Brian Mikkelsen, Mike Geer, Dave Canning, Jamie Bird and Tony Oxley. For the Merchants, Brian Anderson had a pair of goals, Randy Howell and Jeff Field had one each. The game was less than two minutes old when defenseman Mike Geer fed a perfect pass'to Todd Wilbur on a breakaway and he made no mistake. ' That opened the flood gates as MoJacks were re- lentless in applying pressure on goalie Tim Grills who didn't get a lot of help from his team-mates. At the other end of the ¢ MoJacks win two by big margins and Gibson was tested on a couple of occasions. In the second period, Merchant Barry Johnston was tossed out of the game for grabbing Brian Mikkel- sen's face mask. Mikkelsen kept his cool and skated away from the altercation without a penalty. Against the Clippers on Saturday night in the match box they call an arena in Stouffville, Tim Thompson clicked for a hat trick and added two assists. Defense- man Ian Turner also had a hat trick for the MoJacks, and Jamie Bird scored two short-handed goals in the second period which gave MoJacks a lift. Bob Wildman had a pair of goals, with Mike Mitchell and Charlie Brown adding singles. Brown also had four assists. Clay Lovering in the MoJack goal had a very busy night, facing 43 shots, and "was brilliant in the final period as he held the Clippers to just one goal. The scoring power of the MoJacks is evident by the fact that in 14 games so far this season, the team has netted 93 goals. However, they have given up 83 and that is still a concern for coach Don McBeth. But one of the reasons why there is a lot of scoring around the league is the new rule this year in which a player must serve the full penalty even if a goal is scored. Certainly, in the past half dozen games, the MoJacks have been playing much improved hockey and the attitude of the players is very positive, The team heads into the crucial weekend series with Bowmanville almost injury free and with nobody on the bench due to suspensions. The Edgles will be at the Scugog Arena this Saturday night for a 7:30 face-off and the teams meet again Sunday night in Bowman- ville.
