Senior girls lose 42-36 by Kevin Harris The senior girls basketball team travelled to O'Neil High School last Friday, "November 27 for the LOSSA semi-final. The girls were matched up against the top rated Paul Dwyer senior team. The winner of the game was to play at Durham College on Saturday. The game saw the stands filled with Rebel spirit. Port Perry, High School teachers, 'staff, "students, principal and former principal Mr. Williams showed at the. game. Dwyer pulled ahead at the end of the first quarter 16-8. The half time score saw the big red machine down 26-16. In the second half Port looked good. They staged a minor comeback in the third period which ended 31-25 at the buzzer. In the final period Port played fantastic. They pulled ahead 33-32 with five minutes and twenty seconds remaining. The game ended in Paul Dwyer's favour 42-36. The girls showed great skills and team work throughout the year. The team would like to thank everyone that came out to the game, the town of Port Perry showed great spirit in the defeat. Barb Elliott and Jennifer Simmonds were top scorers' in their last game as a Port Perry 'basketball player. Barb hoop ed in 13 points while Jennifer banked in 8 . points. Rhonda White played a good game and scored 7 points. Centre Kira Cope shot 6 points, while Kelly Karper put a basket on the score board. Mrs. 'Steele was pleased with the girls defense. 'The team just couldn't put the ball in the hoop." The squad liad a good season and are to be congratulated for strong play, skills and spirit. Cannington has a big fast skating club that our boys seemed to be in awe of. Wed. Nov. 25 Port dropped a 3 - 1 decision to the boys from the north.Scoring our only marker was Craig Venning.Sunday Nov.29 Cannington returned to Port Perry and took us 7 to 3.Try as our boys might lady luck was not on their side.Scoring losses for Port's "Stones"saw Steve Connors with 2 goals. Rob Jamieson was credited with Ports other marker. Assists were credited to Craig Venning with 2,Jamie Menzies and Mike Gibson with 1 apiece.Five penalties were assessed with Port picking up 3.This was not to be one of the '""Stones"better weeks but you can bet we will be ready for Cannington next time.
