Matt Durward was right on the spot, to take a pass from Jimmy Vernon to put Port ahead 2 - 1, but again Royal York came right back to tie. The third period had every- one on their feet, with the continuous end to end play, both goalies making super saves, very close checking penalty late in the third period and Mike Sorley on the power play gave Port a 3 - 2 win, : The Green Machines had A team from Uxbridge Curling Club won the annual House of Howard Bonspiel December 1, at Port Perry Curling Club. Bonspiel director Judy Latta Pee Wees win by Doreen Kendall It was a big week for the Geo. Stone Pee Wees wrapping it up with a tie and two resounding wins. All three games showed a solid team effort from each boy on the team and excellent positional play. The coaching staff should be congratulated on the fine job they are doing - the hard work and patience is really paying off. Monday, Nov. 30th the "Stones" played in Stouff- ville and returned home after a hard end to end game with a 2-2 tie. Scoring for Port saw Robbie Brown pick up a beautiful pass from Rob Jamieson and put the puck away in fine fashion. Our other goal was credited to Brad Traves off a pass from Jamie Menzies. Paul Van Camp hooped in 4 points as Rob / Franssen and Kevin Harris put in a basket each. Port then went into the consolation side of the tourn- ament. The team played Eastdale Saturday morning and defeted the Eagles. Pete Stone led the scoring with 22 points. Todd Wilbur hooped in 8 points, Paul Van Camp, Scott Wallace, Kevin Harris, and Pete Christie scored: 6, 4, 3 and 2 points respectively. The Rebels had their best game of their short season. The boys chalked up 45 points to Eastdale's 32 points. The team was then to play: the strong Central squad in the consolation final. The game was close the entire contest but unfortun- ately, the Central Chiefs had more will power and stamina then the Rebel squad. Pete Stone led the point getting by hooping in 17 points. Scott Wallace banked in 6 points as John Butler added a basket. The final score was Central 32 - Port Perry 25. with the shut out was Mark Kendall who -had a solid game between the pipes. The only penalty in the game was awarded to Uxbridge. Port received excellent ' goal tending with Stacey Ballin' gal being awarded the shut out. This coming weekend the Stones journey to Baysville to play in the "Lake of Bays Tournament" to play their second game of the day at seven o'clock against Sutton, although a high scoring game, both teams played extremely well, and credit must be given to Chris and Ryan who both played fantastic in goal. Mike Sorley opened the scoring ~~ with only thirty-seven seconds played into the first period, Danny Maw picked up a well earned assist, the remainder of the period was scoreless, Port completely dominated the second period, picking up six . goals, the first by Jeff Mills with Jarett Harman assist- ing, Eric Grosvenor put Port ahead 3 - 0, Clair Cornish earning the assist, Sutton managed to score one, before Port took control. again, Danny Maw picking up his second assist of the game, fed a pass to Jarett Harman to give Port a 4 - 1 lead, Jarett scored his second of the game nineteen seconds later unassisted. Jimmy Vernon doing an excellent job on wing was credited with the assist on Mike Sorleys second goal of the game. Matt Durward another winger coming on strong, scored on a rebound shot from Mike Sorley, after a very rewarding second period, Port now hada 7 - 1 lead. "Only two goals were scored in the third period, both of these went to Daryl Leatherdale with Derek Fitzgerald and Paul Wylie each picking up an assist, 'this giving Port a 9 - 1 win. The third game was played * Sun.morning against Hunts- ville. This was the goalies game, making those spect- acular saves when called upon, the first two periods were scoreless and the play was continually going from end to end, finally with eight seconds played into the third period, Daryl Leatherdale managed to get one past Huntsville gealie, Clair Cornish doing an excellent job on passing to earn the assist, but. Huntsville were not to be forgotten and eight seconds later came right back to tie the game at 1-1, with only two minutes and seventeen seconds left in the third 'period, Huntsville got the go ahead goal, but The Green Machines proved they could also come back and Paul Wylie passing up to Daryl Leatherdale slipped one across to Clair Cornish - who made no mistake find- ing the open cornef, again the teams are in a deadlock, but with only 46 seconds left in the game, Mike Sorley assisted Jeff Mills to score . the winning goal and give The Green Machines another 3 - 2 win and the opportunity to advance to the Champion- ship game. With véry hard play- ed games behind them, The Green Machine was hoping for a big win in the final game, they knew they were up against stiff competition, as Amhurst lost only one game by a score of 1 - 0. I might add that of the sixteen teams competing in this tournament, Port Perry was the only team to win every game. The first period was fast, with end to end hockey, the defence doing a remarkable job, checking and clearing the puck, with only four minutes left in the period, Mike Sorley scored on a pass from Danny Maw and Mike Toye, Amhurst came right back to tie, and with ten seconds left got the go ahead goal. With only 47 seconds played into the second period, Danny Maw scored his first goal of the season, on a low shot from the blue line, Clair Cornish being credited with the assist, Paul Wylie playing a superb game on defence, put Port ahead 3 - 2 again on a low shot form the blue line, Mike Sorley and Jimmy Vernon each credited with the assist. Port needed an assurance goal, Amhurst are desperately wanting a goal for a tie, the fans are on their feet cheer- ing their team on, the coaches are on the bench sweating it out,but Port got the break they needed when Eric Grosvenor keeping con- trol of the puck in Amhurst end, passed in front where Daryl Leatherdale playing in the slot scored to give Port their assurance goal. Amhurst pulled their goalie to go- with. six attackers, but Port proved their strength and retained their 4 - 2 victory. . The Amhurst N.Y. team played well and gave Port Perry a real battle right down to the final second. They showed true sports- manship. We have a home game on Fri, Dec. 11th at 8 o'clock. against Port Hope, then on Dec. 12th and 13th, we are off to the Oak Ridg Tournament. . : 2-1 Victory The Malmont Farm Atom A's played in Pickering Village on Dec. 3. Close checking, end to end skating made three fast. periods. Only three penalties were handed out, Pickering picking up all three. With the close checking by both teams, the first period remained scoreless and it was not until the second period that Port went ahead 1-0 on a goal by Jimmy Vernon with Jeff Mills pick- . ing up the assist, two minutes later, Clair Cornish gave The Green Machines a "2-0 lead, Port had excellent scoring 'chances, but credit must be mentioned to Pick- erings goalie who played super and kept his team in the game. With only one minute left in the game Pickering finally got on the scoreborad. Chris McConnell and Ryan LaRocca played super between the peipes, giving Port a well deserved 2 -'1 victory.
