The senior team is coming off a bad season last year. They will have a new coach this season. Replacing coach Arculus will be Mr. Rideout. Rideout is not new to the game, he has coached the junior team in the last two seasons. He will coach both teams. this year. He is optimistic to his team's out- comes. Both have few veteran players. The senior squad is made up of Tom Muirhead, John Butler, Rob Franssen, Paul Van Camp, Peter Christie, Brett Oosterman, Todd Wilbur, Scott Wallace, Pete Stone. and Kevin Harris. Tom Muirhead will be Utica, CandB are hot by Dave Dalton For those that have missed the last few weeks Utica after a slow start have gotten on track and 'beaten Beacock's C and B to put themselves in second place just behind C and B and have shown they are to be reckon- ed with. Elsewhere in this paper are the up date stand- ings and individual statistics. This past Sunday saw no real upsets in the League as C and B and Utica both won their games. The first game of the day saw Utica hand Larocque a 4-1. defeat to grab sole possession of second place ahead of Beacock's. The first period went scoreless as both teams had chances early to get on the scoreboard. Utica got the lead early in the second on a powerplay goal by Rick Col- lins on a set up from Steve Short. Three minutes later Larocque's tied it at one a piece as Brian Pomeroy net- ted one from Kevin Martens. Before the period was over Laval Poulin from Len McEnaney put Utica ahead for good. Try as they might Laroc- que's couldn't tie it up before Len McEnaney put Utica ahead by two. The next game was be- tween the two bottom place teams, Emmerson's and Brian's,and neither one pull- ed ahead of the other in the standings as they tied at 0-0. John Lefaive for Brians and Mike Haines for Emmersons each played well in their respective nets in recording the shut-outs for their teams. Neither team could get much offense mastered in the first two periods and had even fewer chances in the third as they ran into a rash of penalties. In the final frame Brians took 6 to Emmerson's 5 penalties. In the big match of the week C and B beat Beacocks by a 3-0 score to put Black- stock further down in the standings. The first period was score- less even though both teams - did have some chances with C and B holding the upper hand. In the second, C and B went to work early and with- in a span of six minutes had fired three into the Black- stock net for the win. Ken Jeffrey in the slot potted the first one from Rob Evans.Four minutes later Tim Ashbridge picked off an errant clearing pass and from 15 feet out drilled one into the top corner for a 2-0 lead. The final C and B goal went to Ken Fraser with Mike Mitchell drawing the assist. After this goal the action got chippy with Beacocks holding the edge on the power play, but couldn't get too much room, or if they did get close.Keith Fraser stood up to make the save on his way to recording his sixth shut-out of the season. rT en oI playing his first year of basketball. He will play for- ward and will pick up things quickly. John Butler will play guard (being the shortest player on the team). John has played off and on in his High School career. Rob Franssen did play last year but was used sparingly. This year the Rebels will use him as forward. Pete Christie will play both forward and guard. Peter might work into a regular starting forward position. Brett Oosterman was a starting forward until he was hurt in the first exhibition game against Uxbridge. Brett has had problems with his knee in the past season. Replacing Brett will be Paul Van Camp. Paul played off the bench for the seniors last year. He will now be forced into a starting position. Todd Wilbur will be playing forward at least at the start of the season. Todd is foreign to the new position and before the end of the year, you might see him back at starting guard. Scott Wallace who shared starting guard position last year on the junior team will start this season. At centre Port will have Peter Stone who will be akey inthe Team's outcome. Peter must play well and give the team some rebounding strength. The only veteran starts from a, year ago is guard Kevin Harris. Kevin who plays sparingly because of his knees, must find himself replaced because of slow and out of shape conditioning. The juniors will be led by Rob Burnett who is one of two returning starters of last year's junior squad. Rob will start at guard and will have a big load on his shoulders. Mark Phillips who also started last year will play at forward again this season. Stan Glass the backup centre a year ago will inherit the position this season. The other rebounders on the team will be former starting midget Mark Goreski. Mark will learn a great deal this year and will be a key factor in the rebounding ability of the team. Ken Elliott has started at guard but will have to play very well to beat out Dean Stone and Jamie Lane who played midget last year. Other players on the WE ONLY D0 WHAT WE 00 BEST team are: Mark Penny, Richard Alsoop, Jeff Kerr, Trevor Till, Brian Tysick, Raj Maharaz and Steve DeHass. Spare forwards will be: Jeff, Trevor and Brian. The seniors and juniors both lost their home openers to Uxbridge. Scott Wallace led the way for the senior Rebel squad with 13 points. Peter Stone hopped in 11 points while Todd Wilbur added 8. Paul Van Camp contributed 3 points as Peter Christie and Kevin Harris added singles. Brett Oosterman put 4 points on the scoreboard. Brett unfortunately was hurt in the second quarter. Brett who could not play in the playoffs last year will probably not play this year so he says. The final score was 49-41. The junior game wasn't any closer than the senior. Rob Burnett was the top scorer with 9 points. Stan Glass and Mark Phillips scored 8 and 6 points respectively. Dean Stone banked in 5 points while Brian Tysick and Trevor Till added 2 each. The team lacked re- bounding ability and spirit. The final score was Ux- bridge 41, Port Perry 31. All three teams midget, junior, senior will play their first league games at Pickering High School. The teams will also travel to G.L. Roberts later on in the week. Wrestling squad comes on strong by Kevin Harris The Port Perry High School wrestling team started off well last week. The junior members attended a novice meet last Thursday, December 3. The team placed third out of twelve squads in the tourney. Jim Lamp picked up where he left off last year and won his weight class with a 5-2 record. Scott Branton, Dale Lown and Chris Kelemencic all placed third with 3-2, 5-2 and 4-2 records respectively. Bernie Van Derzvet had the most wins on the day with 6, even though he only lost 2, he placed 4th. Better luck next time. On Saturday, the boys travelled to the Dunbarton Invitational. The school placed fifth. Mike Barton placed first with a 6 and 1 record. Pat Bertrant and Mark Beamish both came in second with 53 and 3-1 records respectively. Rob Huggins had a 6-3 record and placed fourth. Atom House League by Doug Moore Forder Insurance - 10 Scugog - 1 In a hight scoring game Don Forder Insurance de- feated Lake Scugog Lumber 10 - 1. Scoring for U.A.W.were Marvin Hughes assisted by Ron Davis and Peter Brock assisted by Marvin Hughes.
